International Forum on Northeast China Culture at Jilin University
On April 18th, 2025, Jilin University hosted the
International Forum on Northeast China Impressions: The Local-Cosmopolitan Dimensions of Northeast China's Culture. Organized by the Publicity Office of the CPC Jilin University Committee, the Institute of International Communication Studies, and the College of Journalism and Communication of Jilin University, the forum aimed to enhance cultural understanding and dialogue.
Among the attendees were officials from various government departments, including the Publicity Department of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and the Education Department of Jilin Province. Leaders from prominent institutions across Jilin province, alongside representatives from media organizations such as the Jilin Branch of Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group, contributed to the cultural exchange initiatives.
During the opening ceremony, a significant announcement was made regarding the
Launch of the Jilin Province Universities International Communication Alliance Initiative. This initiative was a collaborative effort from representatives of twelve universities, including esteemed institutions like Northeast Normal University and Yanbian University, who collectively signed a declaration to foster international collaboration in cultural communication.
The forum attracted a diverse group of experts, scholars, and youth representatives from sixteen countries, including the United States, Russia, France, South Korea, and several countries from Africa and South America. This global participation underscored the commitment to fostering dialogue on cultural exchange and communication.

Zhang Fugui from Jilin University emphasized the necessity of integrating various cultural dimensions to innovate the international communication of Northeast China’s culture. He advocated for
cross-boundary storytelling to link the unique local experiences of Northeast China with broader global civilizations, promoting a deeper understanding of differing cultural contexts.
In addition to academic discussions, the forum featured captivating art and photography exhibitions that vividly showcased the rich cultural heritage of Northeast China. These exhibitions provided attendees with an immersive experience of Northeast China's artistic expressions, underscoring its local and cosmopolitan dimensions.
