Michael Baker International has made a significant leadership change by promoting Joseph Bartorelli, CP, GISP, to Vice President of Design Technology. Known as a forerunner in engineering, consulting, and technology, Michael Baker aims for greater strides in innovation and efficiency through this strategic appointment.

Joseph Bartorelli, who leads the firm’s Design Technology team, is poised to accelerate the firm’s integration of advanced technologies. His role will involve redefining how the company plans, designs, and delivers solutions to clients. He is set to implement an enterprise-wide design technology strategy that not only connects digital tools and workflows to the firm’s business objectives but also enhances overall productivity, minimizes risks, and delivers tangible value across Michael Baker's many practices.

In addition to these goals, Bartorelli will enhance collaborations with internal leadership as well as strategic technology providers. This approach positions Michael Baker at the forefront of digital innovation within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. With a background that spans the geospatial industry, Joseph Bartorelli has driven initiatives in various fields, including business management, photogrammetry, photogrammetric mapping, remote sensing, and aerial LiDAR technology, as well as GPS and drone operations. His comprehensive knowledge also includes enterprise asset management and geographic information systems. Bartorelli joined Michael Baker in 2023 as the National Geospatial Business Development Director, where he has successfully worked with both regional and operational leaders to establish a cohesive approach to business development in geospatial services.

Notably, his leadership has also been instrumental in securing two pilot projects focused on Digital Twin technology, an innovative advancement aimed at delivering smarter, more impactful outcomes to clients. Before his tenure at Michael Baker, he founded Vertical Mapping Resources and held the position of Director of Geospatial at Psomas.

Joseph Bartorelli is well-qualified academically, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Nevada, Reno. He is also a Certified Photogrammetrist, Certified GIS Professional, and Certified Scrum Master. Recently, he was appointed to the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Geospatial Methods and Technologies, affirming his leadership in the field.
