The RakuRizu Dance Community Takes Sendai by Storm!
On October 11, 2025, the highly anticipated 'RakuRizu' dance event made its debut in Sendai, marking a significant milestone for the senior women's community. Hosted at the Aoba no Kaze Terrace, this event attracted a diverse group of 109 participants, predominantly women in their 50s and 70s. Despite the light rain and cooler temperatures, the venue was filled with warmth, smiles, and an undeniable sense of camaraderie. Many attendees expressed their desire for more events in Sendai, truly enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the day.
A Celebration of Dance and Community
'RakuRizu' is a dance community for senior women, promoting the idea that “now is youth” through rhythmic movement to popular Japanese songs and soulful melodies. Although the community has primarily held events in Tokyo and Osaka, the growing demand from the Tohoku region led to this inaugural event in Sendai, demonstrating the community's commitment to expanding its reach.
During the event, participants immersed themselves in various dance classes, each filled with nostalgic tunes. The attendees showcased their enthusiasm—some hummed along with beloved songs while others laughed and enjoyed getting back to movement after a long time. Many drove over two hours from regions like Akita, Yamagata, and Iwate just to partake in this special day. As the event concluded, a long line formed for participants to take photos and shake hands with the instructors, reflecting the anticipation and appreciation for the local debut.
Voices from the Participants
Feedback from attendees echoed excitement and fulfillment. One participant shared, "I’ve been waiting for this! I saw it on Instagram and couldn’t believe it was finally happening in Sendai!" Another commented, "When the familiar tunes played, I couldn’t help but join in singing. It was incredibly fun! I hope it happens in Akita and Yamagata too!" The instructors, Reiko Tomita and Chinatsu Harada, expressed their joy in response to the attendees’ heartfelt comments, promising the participants to bring such joyful experiences to them in the future.
Inspired Instructors
Reiko Tomita reflected on the event, stating, "We felt the warmth of the attendees’ voices, and it filled us with excitement to give our best. The smiles and 'I had such fun' comments we received afterward were the greatest encouragement for the RakuRizu family to keep inspiring people across the nation."
Chinatsu Harada mentioned that, despite being their first outdoor lesson, the kind smiles and voices of everyone present made the day unforgettable. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity and excitement for future encounters with the energetic Sendai community.
Organizer's Perspective
Yukiko Tsutida from the Sendai Living Newspaper’s Consumer Division commented on the event's importance. "Through our cultural classes, we aim to enrich people’s lives. This special event allowed us to spread that mission further. It was rewarding to see everyone genuinely enjoying themselves, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity, a highlight for us as organizers."

Officials from local municipalities attended the event, showing interest in utilizing RakuRizu for regional revitalization. Plans are underway to further establish the RakuRizu community in Sendai and expand to various locations throughout the Tohoku region.
