Huawei and China Telecom Win GSMA GLOMO Award for Youth Improvement Initiative

At the recent MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei and China Telecom celebrated a significant achievement by winning the GSMA GLOMO award in the category of Best Mobile Innovation for Better Life for Children and Youth. This recognition was awarded for their collaborative project, the Qingjiao Plan, which aims to improve educational access and resources for students and teachers in rural areas of China.

Initiated by the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation (CSEF) and launched in 2019, the Qingjiao Plan leverages China Telecom’s advanced 5G network and Huawei’s WeLink platform to create a robust online educational environment. This initiative not only serves as a resource hub but also fosters a community for training teachers, addressing significant educational disparities that exist between urban and rural regions. "The Qingjiao Plan aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and effectively narrows the educational gap between cities and villages,” noted Cui Yangyang, Director of the TECH4ALL program at Huawei. "It empowers students from remote areas with essential educational resources necessary to thrive in a digital economy."

To date, the program has successfully trained nearly 180,000 young teachers across China, thus indirectly benefiting tens of millions of students. In Langcang County alone, the initiative has provided training for 600 primary and secondary school teachers, supporting the education of around 5,000 students. The GLOMO awards jury, composed of over 200 independent industry experts including analysts, journalists, and academics, praised the Qingjiao Plan for its impressive scale and potential to benefit a vast number of young learners. They highlighted the program's comprehensive approach in simultaneously providing connectivity and resources to educators.

Furthermore, partners involved in the Qingjiao Plan collaborate with CSEF to identify outstanding teachers nationwide who share their knowledge and distribute educational materials, thus nurturing teacher competency in rural areas to enhance student outcomes.

Huawei is executing this initiative under the umbrella of its digital integration program, TECH4ALL. The Huawei Cloud WeLink platform facilitates interactive online learning, connecting schools, students, and teachers, thus allowing students from under-resourced rural areas to engage in multimedia lessons akin to their urban peers. China Telecom plays a crucial role by providing the necessary 5G and fiber-optic infrastructure, delivering connectivity services to rural regions and ensuring seamless integration of diverse devices across mobile and fixed networks.

During this year’s award ceremony, Huawei’s TECH4ALL Skills on Wheels campaign also made it to the finals in the Marketing Excellence category, demonstrating the company's commitment to impactful digital inclusion and sustainable development. This initiative clearly illustrates the power of technology in bridging educational divides and fostering an inclusive future for all, particularly for children and youth in underserved communities around the world.
