Intrax Foundation Partners with Northwestern University
On May 27, 2025, Intrax announced a significant collaboration with Northwestern University's Global Learning Office (GLO). This partnership aims to create the Intrax Foundation Yokota and Wilhelm Scholars Global Horizons Fund. Named after the company's co-founders, this new fund is designed to enhance opportunities for first-generation college students who demonstrate significant financial need and lack prior international travel experience.
Sara Tully, director of GLO, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, "We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Intrax to offer a unique global learning experience for undergraduates." The Global Horizons Program is set to provide invaluable experiences for students, expanding their horizons and equipping them with the necessary literacy skills related to international travel. This initiative will complement GLO’s extensive portfolio of over 150 study abroad programs spanning 50 countries, reflecting a strong commitment to making global education accessible to all students.
Program Details
The Global Horizons Program consists of short-term, non-credit treks lasting nine days during the spring break. This structure allows first-year students to develop close connections with professors, advisers, and peers, all while immersing themselves in different cultures tied to various academic subjects. The inaugural trek, set for spring 2026, will focus on exploring the unique intersections of culture in modern Taiwan under the guidance of Professor Wen-pin Hsieh from Northwestern's Department of Asian Languages and Cultures.
Further excursions within the program are anticipated in 2027 and 2028, continuing to provide enriching experiences for the students involved.
Impact on Students
Participating in study abroad experiences has been shown to foster positive personal growth, including enhanced self-awareness, independence, career prospects, and improved decision-making abilities. Currently, nearly half of Northwestern’s undergraduate students benefit from studying abroad. The introduction of this hands-on program is expected to broaden awareness and accessibility to global learning opportunities.
Marcie Schneider, Intrax Inc.'s president, emphasized the organization’s mission to connect people and cultures. She stated, "Through the Intrax Foundation's donation to Northwestern, we hope that these opportunities will reveal the numerous benefits of becoming global citizens to students."
Since its inception in 1980, Intrax has been a prominent player in cultural exchange and international engagement, having impacted over a million individuals across more than 100 countries. The Intrax Foundation, established in 2023 to honor the legacy of its founders, aims to foster global connections by working alongside educational institutions like Northwestern University.
