Edogawa Ward, located at the eastern edge of Tokyo's 23 wards, is increasingly popular as a residential area that harmonizes traditional downtown culture with nature. The recent resident satisfaction survey sheds light on several aspects of livability in Edogawa, from transportation convenience to safety and resilience against natural disasters.

However, there were concerns about the convenience of transport within Edogawa, with complaints about bus overcrowding and infrequent service during rainy days. Moreover, some areas are distant from the nearest station, contributing to dissatisfaction.

Access to Narita and Haneda airports is also seen positively, adding to the appeal of Edogawa for travelers.

Ease of Living Satisfaction

Moreover, large shopping centers like Ario Kasai and Holmes cater to various needs, from daily essentials to furniture and appliances. Additionally, budget-friendly options available at discount supermarkets enrich the local economy, making it easier for residents to manage their living costs, despite some complaints about accessibility to larger supermarkets in certain areas.

Cost of Living Satisfaction

Around 60% of residents express satisfaction with local living costs, yet 40% share concerns regarding expenses. Positive remarks often highlight the affordability of the area compared to central Tokyo, referencing the variety of stores typical of traditional downtown areas.

Fresh produce from local markets is often praised, while budget supermarkets offer ways to minimize costs. Nevertheless, rising national inflation is a concern for many, leading to a divide in perspectives on expenses.

Satisfaction with Commercial Facilities and Entertainment

However, feedback pointed out that entertainment establishments are sparse near some stations, especially appealing to younger audiences craving modern cafes and trendy shops. The variability in satisfaction highlights the disparities dependent on local regions.

Safety Satisfaction

Nonetheless, some concerns exist around issues such as rising foreign residency leading to cultural friction or fears stemming from nighttime conditions in poorly lit areas.

Safety Against Natural Disasters

About 54% of residents indicate satisfaction concerning safety from natural disasters; however, close to 47% express anxiety over flood risks, especially given Edogawa's location on low ground between rivers. While residents acknowledge the local government's efforts in risk prevention, fear stemming from historical risks remains evident.

While minor concerns regarding natural disaster preparedness and commercial variety remain, the majority perspective reveals a balanced and pleasant living environment in Edogawa Ward.

The satisfaction survey results indicate Edogawa Ward as a favorable place to reside, with commendable ratings on multiple fronts, including daily ease (92% satisfaction), transportation (79%), and overall livability (86%). Resident feedback highlights affordable housing and a robust local infrastructure as key benefits, even while challenges regarding natural disaster preparedness are acknowledged. Overall, Edogawa combines a blend of cherished traditional community values with modern urban living, hinting at potential for continued growth in making the area even more livable.
