NPO Pendemy Launches Drive to Support STEAM Education for All Children

Challenging Educational Inequities with STEAM Initiatives

NPO Pendemy, in collaboration with its corporate counterpart Pendemy Co., Ltd., is committed to addressing the disparities in educational experiences faced by children across various socio-economic backgrounds. Their primary mission is to deliver high-quality STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education that merges cutting-edge digital technology with hands-on manufacturing experiences. To achieve this, Pendemy is actively recruiting supporters and donations to ensure every child, no matter their economic status or environment, has access to enriching learning opportunities.

Bridging the Gap in Educational Access

In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the ability to ask questions and engage critically with the world is more important than ever. Unfortunately, opportunities to engage with the latest digital tools and quality inquiry-based learning are often limited by a child’s economic background or geographic location, leading to significant experiential disparities. Pendemy aims to combat this issue through its unique model that combines the educational content development expertise of Pendemy Co., Ltd. with the NPO arm, Pendemy Digital Education Lab, which provides direct access to education at little or no cost to schools and communities.

Recent inquiries from corporations interested in contributing through CSR initiatives, as well as individuals wishing to support financially, have increased significantly. In response, Pendemy has opened its support request portal to broaden access and kickstart a more systematic recruitment of supporters.

A Message from the Chairman: Fostering the Joy of Learning

Junta Kimura, the representative of Pendemy, reflects on his personal journey, which shapes the organization’s philosophy. At the age of 15, when he moved from a rural area to an urban city, he faced significant educational challenges and was once told he wouldn’t be accepted into any high school. That experience ignited a passion for learning within him, leading to a transformative realization that education can be enjoyable. This epiphany propelled him to graduate from Waseda University with honors and secure a successful career as an IT engineer at IBM.

Inspired by this life-changing experience, Pendemy is driven by the vision of making the “joy of learning” accessible to all children, irrespective of their circumstances. The support from the community is vital in expanding educational opportunities for children and ultimately broadening their future choices.

Utilizing Donations for Lasting Impact

Pendemy leverages its extensive experience in producing educational programs to offer more than just enjoyable activities; it strives to provide genuine learning experiences. The contributions received will be allocated to various initiatives including the organization of public-private partnerships, the development of new educational programs to reach a wider audience, and the procurement of digital equipment for children to facilitate sustainable operations.

Some highlighted initiatives include:

  • - Translating University Resources into Educational Experiences: Collaborating with institutions like Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Pendemy organizes experiential learning sessions within university campuses, allowing students to observe plankton in ponds and engage with real animals, thus igniting their intellectual curiosity.
  • - Empowering Children to Tackle Social Issues: Working with global corporations, Pendemy conducts workshops focused on sustainable urban planning, where students visualize solutions to environmental challenges using LEGO bricks to create functional prototypes.
  • - Engaging with Advanced Digital Technologies: In collaboration with public facilities like the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, Pendemy encourages children to use 3D modeling software to design
