Finalists Announced for SOTY2026 NEXT AGE Competition at Tokyo Mode Academy

Spotlight on SOTY2026: Next Generation of Retail Stars

The STAFF OF THE YEAR 2026: NEXT AGE competition has unveiled its four finalists, marking a significant moment in the world of retail and fashion. Hosted by Vanish Standard, a company offering digital transformation services for retail staff, the competition is aimed at empowering young retail employees under the age of 25. The grand finale will take place on October 6, 2026, at the Tokyo Mode Academy in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Celebrating Young Talent in Retail

As the retail industry grapples with a shortage of aspiring sales professionals, NEXT AGE was established to cultivate interest among young individuals in pursuing careers in retail. This new contest is designed specifically for those aged 25 and under, providing an avenue for young retail staff to be recognized and celebrated for their skills and passion for customer service.

The finalists were chosen after a seminary stage involving a rigorous evaluation process. Participants had to demonstrate their growth, creativity, and practical skills during a 1-Day Training Camp held on August 7, 2026. From an initial group of 24 semi-finalists competing online for points, the top four contenders emerged:

1. Ukai (TOMORROWLAND, Takashimaya Gate Tower Mall)
2. Tokinaga Tsutsumi (FREAK'S STORE, Sapporo Stella Place)
3. Yuki Muto (FREAK'S STORE, Fesan Morioka)
4. Rui Ito (RODEO CROWNS WIDE BOWL, Tokyo Bay)

These young talents are set to showcase their skills in a captivating customer service battle.

Bridging the Gap Between Students and Professionals

The final stage of the NEXT AGE contest will not only feature the finalists but will also involve students from the Fashion Business Department at Tokyo Mode Academy. These students will play key roles in the event's operations, management, and judging. This collaboration serves as a unique opportunity for both aspiring retail professionals and future industry leaders to engage and learn from one another.

By observing real-time customer interactions, students can gain insights into the retail profession and the essential skills required in the fast-paced fashion industry. Likewise, the finalists will benefit from receiving feedback from those training to enter the field.

Competition Details

The grand event on October 6 is not just a culmination but a celebration of talent where each finalist will engage in 1-on-1 role-playing customer service battles. The event is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM and conclude around 5:00 PM at the Cocoon Tower Hall A in Shinjuku.

The top two competitors will earn the opportunity to advance to the final stage of the larger STAFF OF THE YEAR 2026 competition on November 12 at Shibuya Hikarie.
