Adelance's Artistic Contribution to 'Piaf'

This collaboration will take place at Hibiya Theatre Create in Chiyoda, Tokyo, from January 10 to January 31, 2026. Studio AD's skilled experts will create custom wigs and manage hair and makeup for the cast throughout the performance.

Studio AD is renowned for its dedicated team of professionals who specialize in wig production, hair and makeup for theater, and overall planning of hair design for performances. Each wig created by Studio AD is crafted meticulously to fit the unique size of each cast member's head, ensuring authenticity and comfort on stage. This personal touch allows actors to fully embody their roles, enhancing the overall performance.

For this production of 'Piaf', notable actresses including Shinobu Otake, Masayo Umezawa, and Nao Ayaki will utilize these custom wigs, embodying the character of Edith Piaf, one of France's most cherished singers known for her passionate life and music.

The hair and makeup planning for 'Piaf' is led by Yuko Sato, an influential figure within Studio AD. Having joined Adelance in 1990, she possesses vast experience in wig production and hair design for both stage and film. Sato's impressive portfolio includes collaborations on various acclaimed productions like 'A Number', 'Hamlet', and 'What If If Only', showcasing her versatility and aesthetic vision.

Introducing 'Piaf'



The play 'Piaf', written by Pam Gems, dramatically depicts the tumultuous life of Edith Piaf. It delves into her deep emotions, love, and the pain of losing loved ones. With Sato's creative direction and her exceptional team’s dedication, audiences can expect a stunning portrayal of Piaf when the play first premiered in 2011 under the direction of Miyatake Kuriyama.

Celebrated for bringing the character to life, Shinobu Otake's performance has received widespread acclaim, making her the focal point of this theatrical presentation. As the 15th anniversary approaches, the play will reach a milestone of more than 200 performances.
