Experience Intergenerational Joy at MOTTOBA! Winter FES in Yokohama

Exciting Intergenerational Festival Coming to Yokohama

On December 6, 2025, the highly anticipated intergenerational community event, MOTTOBA! Winter FES, will take place at Motoba!, a community space located at Futamata River Library in Yokohama, Japan. Organized by AgeWell Japan, which primarily aims to facilitate community bonding across generations, this festival promises to be a colorful winter celebration that unites people from all age groups. Together with Sotetsu Building Management, the event is a part of the local community project ‘Machinakama’, aimed at fostering deeper connections within the community.

Building Connections Across Generations

Motoba! is more than just a community space; it acts as a vibrant hub where people aged from their teens to their 90s gather to connect and share experiences. It is a melting pot of generational interaction where classes such as smartphone workshops, English conversation meetups, lunch gatherings, and various creative clubs encourage natural connections amongst participants of all ages.

The MOTTOBA! Winter FES will extend the welcoming atmosphere of Motoba! into the wider community, featuring diverse programs meant for seniors, students, and families to enjoy together. Planned activities include:

  • - Hands-on crafting sessions led by senior instructors,
  • - Family-friendly activities,
  • - Unique music performances by local high school students alongside an 85-year-old ‘grandma drummer.’

Participants can look forward to crafting holiday decorations using eraser stamps, creating Christmas boards, and making dessert-style soaps. Additionally, they will be able to enjoy a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, including hot wine. The event aims to create heartwarming memories, bringing smiles and connections to everyone involved.

Age-Well Community Co-Creation

As Japan navigates the challenges of an aging society, the importance of intergenerational relationships and shared learning has become paramount. AgeWell Japan's vision encapsulates the idea of growing older positively through exploration and connections. The upcoming Winter FES aligns with this mission, as it highlights the collaborative efforts of local residents who become active participants in the creation and nurturing of a community that embodies the essence of ‘Age-Well.’

Engagement between knowledgeable seniors and younger generations—especially the Z Generation—creates spaces where new opportunities for collaboration arise, ultimately generating fresh, meaningful contributions to community life. This festival is more than just a celebration; it's about cultivating a lifestyle that prioritizes age positivity and inclusivity in communal activities.
