Call for Projects: Enhancing Domestic Media Arts Creators Through Support Programs

Enhancing Media Arts in Japan: A Call to Creators

The Agency for Cultural Affairs has announced the launch of a crucial initiative aimed at nurturing domestic creators in the field of media arts, encompassing areas such as media art, gaming, animation, and manga. This initiative, termed the 'Media Arts Creator Development Support Program' for FY2026, offers two distinct project proposals: the 'Domestic Creator Creation Support Program' and the 'Domestic Creator Presentation Support Program.' Both programs are aimed at paving the way for the next generation of media arts creators.

Objectives of the Initiative

The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance the standards of creators engaged in media arts by providing them with the necessary support for creative activities. Additionally, it seeks to improve the nurturing environment for these creators and facilitate international exchanges among them. By fostering communication and collaboration opportunities, the program aims to elevate the creation and dissemination of media arts both domestically and internationally.

Two Key Programs Offered

1. Domestic Creator Creation Support Program
- Target Audience: Creators aged up to their 40s who have a minimum of five years of experience or have received recognition in Japan or abroad.
- Funding Limit: Up to 5 million yen (including tax).
- Application Period: May 13, 2026, to June 2, 2026.
- Selection Schedule: Commences in early June and runs until the end of July for preliminary screening, followed by interviews in August. The final list of selected projects will be published in early September 2026.
- Support Provided: Selected projects will receive tailored advisory support, promotion assistance, and opportunities for collaboration with other creators.

2. Domestic Creator Presentation Support Program
- Target Audience: Creators aged up to their 40s with at least three years of experience.
- Funding Limit: Up to 1 million yen (including tax).
- Application Period: Same as the creation support program.
- Selection Schedule: Similar timeline with preliminary screenings in early June and results released in early September 2026.
- Support Provided: This program offers advisory sessions specifically focused on presentation methods and collaborative opportunities with other creators.

Upcoming Events

The culmination of both programs will be showcased during an achievement presentation event scheduled for February to March 2027, where selected creators will present their work and the progress made within the program. Last year's event, known as 'ENCOUNTERS,' saw tremendous success and interaction among participants and experts in the field.

How to Apply

Those interested in submitting proposals can access detailed application instructions via the official website: Cultural Affairs Media Arts Creator Development Support Program. To complete the entry, applicants need to fill out the required information and upload the necessary materials for evaluation.

This initiative not only supports individual creators but also paves the way for robust networking opportunities in the vibrant domain of media arts.
