Ukrainian Cultural Festival 2026: A Three-Week Celebration in NYC

Ukrainian Cultural Festival 2026: A Celebration of Ukrainian Arts in NYC

The fourth annual Ukrainian Cultural Festival (UCF), hosted by Razom for Ukraine, is currently lighting up the vibrant art scene in New York City. The festival commenced on October 18 at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, featuring the U.S. premiere of Steel, Violet, Rage, a unique four-hands piano concerto composed by Ukraine's own Oleh Bezborodko. This year's festival promises to be more immersive than ever, offering a lineup of 18 extraordinary events that explore the intricate intersection of Ukrainian culture, art, and literature.

A Deep Dive into Cinema

Between October 22-26, the festival will transition into the exciting realm of cinema, presenting a dedicated Cinema weekend at DCTV's Firehouse Cinema and QUAD Cinema. Attendees can expect a diverse selection of films, including:
  • - Sanatorium (Ireland’s entry for the 98th Academy Awards)
  • - Nice Ladies
  • - Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story
  • - Silent Flood
  • - Honeymoon
  • - To the Victory!
  • - Cuba Alaska

In addition to screenings, the festival includes engaging short film programs and workshops such as the Docudays UA short films and animated works from the Linoleum Fest. A unique discussion on immersive XR technology, as well as a masterclass in animation with acclaimed artist Sashko Danylenko, will take place, fostering a collaborative atmosphere for filmmakers and audiences alike.

Theater and Literature Highlights

The theatrical offerings during UCF are equally compelling. On October 26, Teatro LATEA will host scenes from The Reckoning, a poignant documentary-theater piece by DASH Arts, which gathers testimonies from those affected by conflict. This important work is set to tour North America in 2027.

As the festival progresses into its literary segment from October 28–November 1, it will shine a spotlight on Ukrainian authors and translators. Notable events include:
  • - “Poet as Witness” on October 28, featuring influential soldier-poets Yaryna Chornohuz and Lesyk Panasiuk alongside translator Amelia Glaser at Poets House.
  • - A panel discussion on the modernist playwright Lesia Ukrainka led by stage directors Virlana Tkacz and Rory Pelsue at the New York Public Library on October 30.
  • - A spirited “Ukrainian Poetry Outburst” at the Ukrainian National Home on November 1, headlined by Eugene Hütz, frontman of the band Gogol Bordello, and master bandurist Julian Kytasty.

Grand Finale

The festival will culminate on November 6 at Zankel Hall, featuring a special performance by the Chamber Girls' Choir of the M.V. Lysenko Kyiv State Lyceum alongside the Westchester Children's Chorus. This event promises to be a harmonious celebration, embodying the spirit of unity and cultural pride that the festival aims to showcase.
