2025 Leadership Announcement for LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency Board

LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency Announces 2025 Board Leadership

The LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, which manages the Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner® service, has officially announced the new leadership for its board of directors for 2025. In a unanimous decision, Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung has been selected as the board's president, while Paso Robles City Council Member Fred Strong will serve as vice president. This announcement is significant as it aims to bolster the operations of one of America’s busiest commuter rail services.

Mayor Fred Jung expressed his gratitude for being appointed board president, stating, "I am honored to assume the role of president of the LOSSAN Agency. I am committed to working closely with the agency's staff, board members, and stakeholders to restore and enhance the Pacific Surfliner service while strengthening the resilience of the rail infrastructure across the LOSSAN corridor."

This leadership change comes at a crucial time as Southern California continues to expand its public transportation options. Jason Jewell, the executive director of LOSSAN, also expressed excitement over the board's new leadership. He noted, "We are thrilled to welcome Director Jung and Director Strong as our new president and vice president for 2025. Their extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable as we work to increase ridership and expand intercity rail travel in Southern California."

Fred Jung has served as mayor since his election in 2021, having first won a city council seat in November 2020. He is also a member of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) board. In January 2023, he was appointed to the LOSSAN board after previously fulfilling the role of vice president.

Similarly, Fred Strong has a rich background in civic service and transportation advocacy, dedicating over 35 years to various roles that promote transportation initiatives. He represents a coalition of agencies including the San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority and the National Association of Regional Councils. Strong was designated as a LOSSAN board director as a representative for the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments.

The LOSSAN Agency operates with a board of 11 members representing rail owners, operators, and planning agencies along the corridor linking San Diego to San Luis Obispo. This governance structure allows for broad representation and collaboration among various stakeholders involved in regional transportation.
