Resilience Grants Empowering Local Restaurants in California's Heart

Supporting Local Restaurants through Resilience Grants

In an initiative that emphasizes the importance of local businesses, 188 restaurants and commercial caterers from Northern and Central California are set to receive resilience grants of $5,000 each. This generous funding is made possible through a collaboration between the California Restaurant Foundation (CRF) and the PG&E Corporation Foundation. The aim is clear: to provide necessary support for restaurants to thrive even amid economic challenges.

The Significance of the Grants

During challenging economic times, small businesses often face hurdles that can threaten their survival. These resilience grants offer a lifeline to many restaurants that are the heart of their communities. The funding is intended for various needs, including equipment upgrades and workforce training to enhance operations and efficiency. This year marks a record contribution of $1.1 million from the PG&E Foundation towards these critical funds.

Expanding Reach and Impact

This year's grant distribution shows a notable increase from 154 grant recipients last year, underlining the growing need for support within the industry. With a total of 863 grants awarded since 2021, the program highlights the ongoing commitment to assist restaurants in navigating the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had devastating effects on many establishments.

Dawn Borst, the owner of Bayside Café in Morro Bay, shared her gratitude, expressing the profound impact the grant will have on her restaurant's operations. With her background of starting the restaurant without formal training or significant financial resources, Borst encapsulates the spirit of many local business owners who face similar challenges.
