Upcoming Exhibition: 'Affogato' by Momoe
From September 12 (Friday) to October 4 (Saturday), 2025, Tagboat in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, will host a solo exhibition titled 'Affogato' featuring the modern artist Momoe. Graduate of Tama Art University’s Graphic Design program, Momoe utilizes the combination of two-dimensional flat characters and everyday materials to expand the boundaries of her canvas creations. She aims to share visual humor derived from experiences she finds amusing, continually exploring unique artistic approaches.
The title 'Affogato' originates from a delightful dessert where hot espresso and cold ice cream merge to create new flavors. Similarly, Momoe's works also generate fresh visual experiences through the amalgamation of 'flat characters' with 'tangible materials.' This exhibition will showcase a variety of expressions, including new works using a 100-sentimeter canvas and yarn—representing a bold step in her artistic journey.
Featured Works
At the 'Affogato' exhibition, Momoe will present a collection of works that leap beyond traditional painting through her ability to merge character expressions with real-world materials. Viewers can expect to discover a playful yet profound visual depth where contrasting elements collide and blend, inviting a new sense of humor and sensory experience.
Concept Overview
Affogato—the dessert—symbolizes the harmonious blend of contrasting elements: hot espresso and cold ice cream. drawing parallels with Momoe’s artistic vision where 'flat characters' interact with 'tangible materials' to create striking visual impacts. She seeks to portray new sensations stemming from the collision of diverse worlds through her artwork.
“I want to present a new sense of feeling through the confrontation of different worlds,” — Momoe
