MetLife and Global Citizen Unite for Global Change
On May 12, 2026, MetLife, Inc. and Global Citizen announced the launch of a global social media challenge called "Footwork for Futures." This initiative aims to create resilient communities by providing children with better access to quality education and sports, helping them to build confidence in facing life's challenges.
The challenge invites participants to share short videos on social media platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, and Facebook. By using the hashtag
#FootworkForFutures, individuals can showcase their skills by performing keepie-uppies or attempting to keep a soccer ball in the air. For every video submitted, MetLife will donate $5 to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, with a total contribution cap of $100,000. This fund is dedicated to enhancing children's opportunities in education and sports through grants to community organizations around the globe.
The initiative builds on the $9 million pledged by the MetLife Foundation, a founding donor of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which supports local organizations that offer educational and sports programs worldwide.
Footwork for Futures aims to bolster efforts to empower children, fostering their development and strengthening communities, particularly in the context of excitement surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026™.
Nuria Garcia, the Chief Sustainability Officer at MetLife and President of the MetLife Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund brings about positive changes for children and communities by combining the universal language of sports with the power of education. 'Footwork for Futures' makes this mission accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Each video shared can represent a meaningful step toward a brighter future for youth around the world."
The challenge encourages individuals of all skill levels, abilities, and experiences to participate. Everyone is invited to express their unique way of keeping the soccer ball in motion. The challenge will run from May 12, 2026, to July 19, 2026, or until the total donations reach the $100,000 target. While videos can still be shared after the challenge concludes, they will not contribute towards additional donations.
Participants are encouraged to invite friends and family to join the challenge, expanding the initiative's reach and impact. For more details on how to participate, you can visit
Footwork for Futures.
All videos must adhere to the rules of the respective social media platforms and the campaign's Terms & Conditions. This includes visible and safe attempts at keepie-uppies by real individuals. Global Citizen reserves the right to disqualify submissions that do not meet these criteria.
