JL Alliance and SST Agree to Enhance National Logistics Through Collaborative Transportation

Enhancing National Logistics: A New Era of Collaboration

On August 7, 2025, the Japan Local Network System Cooperative Alliance (commonly referred to as JL Alliance) and Sustainable Shared Transport, a subsidiary of Yamato Holdings, entered into a vital agreement aimed at boosting logistics across Japan. This collaborative effort focuses on improving the operational efficiency of logistics providers while promoting sustainable practices within the transportation sector.

Key Objectives of the Agreement

The agreement or, as it is officially known, the 'Collaboration Agreement for Sustainable Logistics Network through Joint Transportation,' encompasses several significant initiatives:

1. Expanding the Logistics Network

JL Alliance will encourage its members to participate in the SST's joint transportation network. This participation is expected to enhance the loading rates and operational efficiency of the trucks used by these member companies. SST, in turn, will leverage partnerships with over 3,500 logistics providers in the Yamato Group to expand the service areas of the 'SST services' and create a stable operational framework to support local businesses.

2. Promoting Joint Transportation for Social Benefit

Through this agreement, JL Alliance will stimulate its member businesses to utilize the 'SST services.' This will not only broaden the transportation reach for client businesses across the nation but also open up new revenue opportunities, thus fortifying the economic base of these member businesses. SST is committed to raising awareness and understanding of the benefits of joint transportation among stakeholders, which will facilitate smoother participation in collaborative transportation initiatives.

3. Enhancing Sustainability and Labor Conditions in Logistics

Both JL Alliance and SST aim to improve working conditions for employees in the logistics sector. The use of standard pallets will create efficiencies in loading and unloading tasks. Additionally, adopting scheduled operations from central hubs will minimize waiting times for loading. These measures are designed to foster a more stable work environment and enhance logistical efficiency, ultimately contributing to the sustainability of their operations.

Insights from the Leaders

Shinji Sako, President of JL Alliance, remarked, “This agreement represents a significant step towards achieving an optimized logistics network that anticipates future needs. By cooperating with SST, we enhance efficiency and improve the conditions for our drivers, which is critical for our member businesses.”

Masanori Takano, President of Sustainable Shared Transport, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Our vision is to create a shared transportation open platform that transcends corporate boundaries. Collaborating with JL Alliance strengthens our mission to support regional logistics and address the challenges facing Japanese logistics.”
