Experience 'Light Before Voice' at Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore
This winter, from
November 14 to
December 25, 2025, Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore in Tokyo is set to host its latest project,
ART OF PLACE 2025. The highlight of this event is an extraordinary art installation titled
'Light Before Voice' by the talented artist unit
DAISY BALLOON.
What is ART OF PLACE 2025?
ART OF PLACE 2025 is not just an art exhibition; it’s a celebration of the winter season that invites visitors to immerse themselves in a transformative atmosphere. This year’s theme is
'WRAPPING', which emphasizes how gratitude, love, enthusiasm, and dedication are intricately interwoven into our lives. The event's narrative unfolds through the changing interactions of the environment, the movement of people, and the interplay of light and sound, all of which converge to create a living piece of art.
The entire experience emphasizes that every moment spent with a book or conversing with someone becomes part of the art itself, creating a tapestry of stories.
The Art Installation: 'Light Before Voice'
The installation
'Light Before Voice' features approximately
2,000 balloons that will decorate the bookstore’s magazine street. Created by balloon artist
Rie Hosokai and art director
Takashi Kawada from DAISY BALLOON, the installation showcases balloons reflecting light and moving towards a center, symbolizing how words form narratives through their connections.
The poem accompanying the installation reads:
>Before voices are born,
>Consciousness floats like light particles,
>Intertwining and resonating,
>Transforming into voices,
>Eventually wrapped as a single 'story.'
>(DAISY BALLOON)
Visitors can witness this artwork evolve as it becomes a stunning visual representation of the spoken word and the stories they create.
Workshop Opportunity
On
November 16, a workshop will be held, allowing attendees to create their original ornaments using balloons from the installation called
'Polaris'. Participants can cut and shape the balloons, putting their thoughts and creativity into this hands-on experience. The ornaments crafted during the workshop will be displayed on a unique Christmas tree at the bookstore.
