MediCapture Launches aiScope™ Pilot Project
MediCapture Inc., a global leader in medical imaging systems, has officially unveiled its innovative software, aiScope™, designed to revolutionize the field of veterinary sciences. This exciting new technology will make its debut at the VMX 2026 event in Orlando, Florida, showcasing the potential of AI in real-time veterinary applications.
The aiScope™ software leverages powerful vision AI models, enabling real-time object detection, image classification, and AI-assisted video analysis directly on MediCapture's Medical Technical Resources (MTR) and Medical Video Recording (MVR) systems. This groundbreaking approach eliminates the need for external computing systems, making medical AI accessible and applicable in real-world veterinary scenarios.
Addressing the Last-Mile Problem
According to Bernd Jotzat, Senior Product Manager at MediCapture, "By embedding AI vision at the point of care, aiScope™ addresses the longstanding 'last-mile problem' that has hindered the implementation of many research AI models in actual clinical and educational environments." This statement reflects the company's ambition to enhance veterinary healthcare with cutting-edge technology.
Enhanced Image Capture Capabilities
The aiScope™ pilot project will transform standard operating cameras into advanced imaging devices capable of real-time classification or identification. Utilizing customized models, aiScope™ analyzes captured images automatically generating bounding boxes and labels for easier identification and assessment. Upcoming updates are expected to introduce automatic annotations and pre-annotated exports, further simplifying the workflow for veterinary professionals.
Open-Source and Manufacturer Neutral
One of the key features of aiScope™ is its manufacturer neutrality; it can work with any MTR or MVR system to execute vision AI applications across various endoscopic, microscopic, and surgical camera systems. The software supports open-source models and integrates community-developed models, promoting collaboration and innovation in the veterinary field.
Project Launch Details
The aiScope™ pilot is set to commence on January 15, coinciding with VetExpo Europe in Leipzig, and will also be featured at the VMX Expo on January 17 in Orlando, USA. The project will run until spring 2026, after which it will be expanded to veterinary universities and research centers for ongoing data collection programs throughout the year.
Portability and Convenience
MediCapture's MTR, equipped with aiScope™, is compact enough to fit in a carry-on-sized suitcase. With a power requirement of under 20 watts, an MTR can operate for over eight hours using a high-quality power bank. This level of portability ensures that AI-assisted imaging can be utilized anywhere in the world, responding to Michael Bishop, President, and CEO of MediCapture, who stated that, "Veterinary medicine includes over 65,000 vertebrate species. This is where science begins and discoveries are accelerated."
Availability of aiScope™
The aiScope™ technology is expected to be available to participants in university pilot projects by March 2026, with broader commercial availability planned for select MediCapture systems in early summer.
