About the National High School Policy Competition

The National High School Policy Competition provides high school students across Japan with a platform to think about social issues and propose policies based on set themes. The goal is to foster interest in politics among young people, create an environment for discussion, and cultivate a sense of sovereignty. Since its establishment in 2023, Japan JC has hosted this initiative.

This year marks the 3rd iteration of the competition, where policy proposals were sought in two categories: the set theme “Creating the Future of Japan!! Sustainable Digital Policies” and the free theme “You Are the Prime Minister!! Local Social Issues and a Bright Future!” We received an overwhelming response with 352 teams comprising around 1,500 participants from 33 prefectures submitting their proposals. After a rigorous selection process involving document review and regional qualifiers, the top 16 teams (8 from each category) advanced to the finals. Their presentations were made available on a dedicated voting site, culminating in a record-breaking total of 15,166 votes cast.
