Elkem Unveils Groundbreaking Recycled Silicones for the Label Industry

Elkem ASA's Silicones division has announced the launch of two new revolutionary products in their SILCOLEASE® lineup, specifically tailored for release liners in the labeling industry. This launch marks a significant step forward in Elkem's ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in chemical recycling.

The newly introduced products, SILCOLEASE® RE POLY 11362 and SILCOLEASE® RE POLY 368, are made entirely from recycled silicone and contain no solvents. According to Agnès Jolly, head of silicone fluid research and technology at Elkem, "These products signify the future of release liner technology, providing the same non-stick properties and ease of release that our customers have come to expect from us." The rigorous testing conducted to ensure seamless integration with existing processes assures users of the performance and reliability of these new offerings.

In early 2025, Elkem collaborated with Kroenert GmbH & Co KG, a leading coating machinery manufacturer based in Hamburg, Germany. The aim was to validate the performance of their recycled silicone products. Ralf Thiel, a process technology engineer at Kroenert, noted, "The recycled products demonstrated processing capabilities identical to their virgin counterparts, even at high speeds. The consistently positive results point towards an optimal and sustainable use of recycled silicone."

Developed using Elkem's patented depolymerization technology, these recycled products boast a 70% lower carbon footprint compared to their non-recycled equivalents. This forward-thinking approach not only meets the current market demand for sustainable solutions but also anticipates future requirements and specifications in the industry.

To further educate the industry on this innovative breakthrough, Elkem will host a specialized webinar on May 15th, co-organized with Alexander Watson Associates (AWA), a leader in the sector. The webinar will feature Clément Des Courieres, Elkem's sustainability director, Carine Dupuit, market director, and Sébastien Marrot, product director. They will discuss the specifics of this innovation, how it aligns with Elkem's sustainability strategy, and its potential contributions to their clients’ operations.
