Celebrate Tradition and Culture at the 2026 Miss Amazake Final Selection
The anticipation is building as the
2026 Miss Amazake final selection event approaches, scheduled for May 16, 2026, at Kanda Myojin Hall in Tokyo. This innovative contest, a collaborative effort between the general incorporated association Miss SAKE, led by director Mika Onishi, and the renowned Bishoujo Zukan, aims to spotlight Japan's cultural heritage and the art of sake brewing, especially through the lens of Amazake, a popular non-alcoholic Japanese sweet rice drink.
This unique project seeks to identify and celebrate the next generation of cultural ambassadors who will convey the beauty and significance of Japanese culture to both domestic and international audiences. During the final selection, judges will choose from 12 finalists, awarding prizes including the coveted Grand Prix.
Understanding Miss Amazake and Its Purpose
Miss Amazake serves as a platform to select cultural ambassadors who will explore and promote Japan’s traditional beverage, Amazake, while also embracing the underlying cultural narratives that accompany it. Recognition of a decline in cultural engagement among the younger generation in recent years has fueled the need for programs like this. The rise of social media and international cultural exchange has seen an increase in interest from global youth regarding Japanese heritage. Thus, it’s more crucial than ever to nurture individuals who can profess their cultural narratives in their own words and share them with the world.
The mission of Miss Amazake is to use this traditional drink as a gateway for participants to learn about and disseminate the culture that surrounds it. By tapping into the rich history and production techniques of Amazake, cultural ambassadors-in-training will recount their stories and share their perspectives on what makes it unique.
