Men's Health Month: Breaking the Silence on Trauma and Mental Health
Men's Health Month: An Urgent Call to Address Men's Mental Health Issues
June serves as Men's Health Month, a critical period dedicated to shedding light on both the physical and mental health challenges faced by men around the globe. This month's focus is imperative, as many men struggle silently with issues like trauma, chronic stress, depression, and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), often feeling overwhelmed and isolated due to societal expectations and stigma surrounding mental health.
According to statistics, men are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and suicide. In the United States, men make up approximately 80% of suicide deaths and are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide compared to women. Despite this, a staggering six million men experience depression annually, often without seeking help due to cultural pressures that label vulnerability as a weakness.
Karen Dickson, co-founder of Remarkably Resilient, Inc., emphasizes that many men endure unseen emotional wounds.
