Atelier September Brings a Taste of Copenhagen to New York for a Weekend

Atelier September's Weekend Pop-Up in New York

For the past 13 years, Atelier September has set the standard for café culture in Copenhagen, garnering a loyal following well beyond Denmark's borders. This November, locals in New York will have a unique opportunity to taste the essence of this iconic café, thanks to chef Frederik Bille Brahe. On November 7-8, 2026, he will be bringing the delights of Atelier September to Altbau Bakery in Williamsburg, a collaboration made possible by the food guide TIPSTER.

The weekend event invites New Yorkers to share in the ambiance and culinary offerings honed in Copenhagen. Operating from 8 am to 4 pm, the transformation of Altbau will offer guests a taste of Atelier September's beloved breakfast and lunch menu. Known for its focus on fresh ingredients and a seasonal approach, this pop-up aims to evoke the warmth and vibrancy of the original café.

“I love New York,” expressed Bille Brahe. “It’s a city I always return to, leaving inspired each time. Many New Yorkers have ventured to Copenhagen to visit Atelier September; now we get to bring that experience to them.” The collaborative spirit of this event celebrates not only Bille Brahe’s culinary proficiency but also the artisanal baking expertise of Chad Robertson, co-founder of Tartine Bakery. Altbau will provide the freshly baked breads, including sourdough and rye, that will elevate the dishes served by Bille Brahe.

Robertson remarked, “Atelier September is my first stop in Copenhagen—singular and exceptional. I’m thrilled to have Frederik cooking upstairs.” He recognizes the cultural importance of bread in Bille Brahe's culinary creations and aims to merge their two worlds for this special occasion, stating, “Our bread goes straight from the oven into his dishes, bringing the two aspects of Altbau together.”

Atelier September’s offerings during the pop-up will include crowd favorites like the Morning Plate, which features sourdough paired with 24-month-aged Comté, a soft-boiled egg, whipped butter, and seasonal jams. Other highlights will be seasonal omelets, sourdough with layered avocado, and delicious almond pancakes served with fresh berries and cream. Yogurt and granola topped with the café's signature zucchini jam will also be on the menu, alongside a weekly green dish that aligns with seasonal produce.

This pop-up follows TIPSTER's earlier endeavors to facilitate culinary exchanges between Copenhagen and New York, including inviting Brooklyn's Taqueria Ramirez and Ceres pizzeria to Copenhagen for similar pop-up experiences. New Yorkers can register for tickets, which will be available for purchase starting October 20, 2026, at tipster.io/atelierseptember, with a small fee of $25 that will be credited to the guest's order.
