Motorola Solutions Establishes Global R&D Center in Cork



Recently, Motorola Solutions announced the opening of its new Global Research and Development (R&D) Center in Cork, Ireland. This facility will concentrate on crafting software for terrestrial mobile radio (LMR) systems designed for public safety, promising enhancements to both safety and efficiency for first responders.

With around 200 employees recruited in Cork's Navigation Square, the center encompasses a diverse range of job roles including software engineering, design, development, testing, quality assurance, and management. This specialized team is dedicated to continually innovate the LMR technology, aiming for an operational reliability rate of 99.999%, a feat often referred to as “Five Nines.”

Irish Prime Minister Michéal Martin shared his thoughts on this development, emphasizing the significance of Motorola Solutions' new center as a testament to Ireland’s robust technical talent and innovative capacity. He remarked, "This investment enhances Ireland's reputation as a global hub for technology. Given Cork's deep expertise, I am confident that groundbreaking advancements in public safety technology will arise from here and look forward to the future with great anticipation."

Mahesh Saptharishi, the Chief Technology Officer at Motorola Solutions, expressed pride in launching the Global R&D Center in Cork. He noted, "Today's LMR functionalities have expanded from highly resilient voice capabilities to sophisticated AI and data applications. Operations at Navigation Square affirm our unwavering commitment to mission-critical communications, upon which public safety organizations rely in their most challenging moments."

Community Engagement and Charitable Initiatives
The Motorola Solutions team in Cork is also actively promoting various educational, volunteer, and charitable efforts. They have established a career partnership with University College Cork (UCC) and Munster Technological University (MTU) to provide internships that allow students to gain practical experience while receiving mentorship for skill development and employment preparation.

Moreover, the team has contributed time and support to local organizations, including "Darkness Into Light," "Cork Arc," "Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland," and the "St. Vincent de Paul Society."
