Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Announces Semifinalists
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, a prominent organization dedicated to supporting students with financial needs, has recently named 485 semifinalists for its competitive Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship program. This initiative is designed to assist outstanding community college students in their pursuit of bachelor’s degrees at four-year institutions across the United States.
This year, the foundation evaluated over 1,300 applicants, eventually selecting semifinalists from an impressive 224 community colleges that span 37 states. Each candidate was rigorously assessed based on academic prowess, determination, and leadership qualities. The semifinalists exemplify the exceptional talent that community colleges foster, showcasing a diverse group of students who are eager to advance their education and careers.
The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is transformative, enabling recipients to continue their studies debt-free. Successful applicants receive up to $55,000 annually to cover costs at any accredited four-year college or university within the United States, effectively removing financial obstacles that often hinder students from achieving their potential.
Giuseppe "Seppy" Basili, Executive Director of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, expressed his pride in the semifinalists, stating,
“Through the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation works to ensure that exceptional community college students have the opportunities to reach their full academic potential.” This year's group certainly reflects considerable promise and ambition.
But the scholarship goes beyond just financial support; it includes holistic assistance for the selected scholars. Each Cooke Scholar benefits from personalized academic advising from the Foundation’s Deans of Scholar Support, who guide them throughout their transition to a four-year institution. This guidance is crucial, as it helps prepare them for future careers while smoothing their journey from community college to a bachelor’s degree.
Moreover, Cooke Scholars gain access to valuable opportunities such as internships, study abroad programs, and graduate school funding. They are also part of a thriving community composed of over 3,800 Cooke Scholars and alumni, providing invaluable mentorship and networking connections that aid both their academic and professional development.
A complete list of this year's Cooke Transfer Scholar semifinalists and their respective community colleges can be found on the Foundation's website. The official announcement of the 2026 Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholars will take place in May.
Since its inception in 2000, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has invested over $332 million in scholarships, benefiting nearly 3,900 students ranging from eighth grade to graduate school. The Foundation also offers extensive educational advising, career counseling services, and grants to organizations that support these students, amounting to $144 million.
