SANY Expands Green Energy Initiatives in Africa with New Solar Power Plant

At the close of June, SANY commenced construction on a groundbreaking 10MW photovoltaic power plant in Zimbabwe. This venture, executed by a Chinese mining firm, represents not only SANY’s inaugural solar project within Zimbabwe but also the first in Africa to implement the innovative "EP+F" business model. This model adeptly merges engineering, procurement, and financing, tailored to meet diverse financial requirements of clients.

The solar facility will utilize SANY's self-developed high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, alongside cutting-edge inverters and robust support frames. With a planned installation capacity of 10MW, the project is expected to be integrated into the national grid by the conclusion of 2025. Upon getting operational, it is anticipated to generate an impressive 18 million kWh of electricity annually, a major boost to alleviating Zimbabwe's power shortages. This will significantly enhance electricity availability for local businesses and communities while also contributing towards a low-carbon energy transformation in the region.

The “EP+F” business model signifies a pioneering step for SANY Silicon Energy, creating a flexible blueprint for forthcoming international partnerships in renewable energy. This model alleviates financial constraints for clients, thereby improving the accessibility and feasibility of clean energy adoption, particularly in emerging markets. Clients have expressed optimism regarding further collaboration with SANY across diverse fields such as microgrid developments, electric trucks, and electric vehicle charging stations.

This solar power project is not SANY's debut in Africa's solar sector. By the end of 2024, SANY completed its mining microgrid project in Zambia, which after four months of construction, became Africa’s first and largest single-unit “solar + storage + diesel” initiative. The first phase of that project is capable of producing around 16 million kWh of electricity each year, yielding more than RMB 20 million in savings on electricity costs for the customer, which constitutes nearly 30% of their comprehensive production expenditures. Following this milestone, SANY has successfully secured agreements for three additional microgrid projects in Zambia, making substantial contributions to the continent’s energy transition.

After a fruitful 23-year relationship with Africa, SANY’s engagement has transcended mere equipment trading, evolving into a commitment towards sustainable cooperation. Currently, the company operates with 15 subsidiaries across more than 30 countries, supported by a trusted network of 13 dealers, making their equipment operational in over 50 global locations. In an additional commitment to local development, over half of SANY's workforce in Africa comprises locally hired personnel, generating upwards of 5,000 job opportunities in the region.

As SANY looks to the future, it remains steadfast in leveraging its technological and managerial strengths to construct a comprehensive local supply chain, thereby fostering green energy and economic growth throughout Africa.
