Explore Emergency Preparedness with Alpha Rice Workshop
On November 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Onishi Foods Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, will participate in the Tokyo Environmental Bureau’s "Mirai Exploration Festival 2026" held at Shinjuku Station West Exit Event Corner in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This experiential event, themed "Exciting Experiences! Sparkling School of Inspiration", aims to attract around 4,000 visitors, mainly elementary school students and their families. Admission and participation in activities will be free!
At Onishi's booth, we will host a unique workshop titled "Let’s Make and Eat Alpha Rice! - Secrets to Waste-Free Preparedness". This workshop is free of charge and designed primarily for families with children in grades 3 to 6, with 25-minute sessions running 12 times throughout the day. Participants will have the opportunity to make Alpha rice, which can be enjoyed simply by adding hot water or cold water, and taste it on the spot. This hands-on experience will educate children about the crucial role of emergency food during disasters, highlight effective home storage tips, and reveal the secrets of "waste-free preparedness" while having fun. Each participant will aim to become a "Home Emergency Food Leader" utilizing what they have learned.
In recent years, the frequency of significant disasters, like earthquakes, has increased, making household preparedness for emergencies more critical than ever. Meanwhile, the issue of food waste from expired stockpiled food has gained attention as a social concern. As a pioneer in long-term food preservation, Onishi Foods aims to convey the importance of balancing preparedness and minimizing waste through enjoyable food experiences, which led to the creation of this workshop.
National Schools and Onishi's Disaster Prevention Classes
Onishi Foods collaborates with schools to deliver "Onishi's Disaster Prevention Classes" where children, who will shape the future, learn the importance of disaster preparedness through the lens of emergency food. These classes are conducted both in-person and online by our staff, addressing various themes such as "What is Emergency Food (Alpha Rice)?", "The Necessity of Rolling Stock", and "Alpha Rice Production and Tasting", customized according to each school’s unique characteristics. Our workshop leverages our experience from these classes, and we encourage everyone to join us that day!
