Exploring Community and Hope: Join the 2026 Overnight Walk in Chicago

Find Hope and Community at the 2026 Overnight Walk in Chicago

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) proudly announces the return of its renowned Overnight Walk, which will be held on June 13, 2026, in the vibrant city of Chicago. This year marks the 31st edition of the event and provides a unique chance for individuals affected by mental health issues and those impacted by suicide to come together and walk for a cause that resonates deeply with many.

The Overnight Walk spans approximately 16 miles, transforming the night into a beacon of hope and healing for participants. AFSP has hosted this flagship fundraising event since 2002, gathering a diverse array of people from all walks of life to raise awareness about suicide prevention. As a participant, not only do you participate in a night of commemoration and unity, but you also contribute to essential research, advocacy, and education efforts aimed at saving lives.

“Every year, The Overnight inspires countless individuals, allowing them to share their stories while fostering a sense of community,” commented Robert Gebbia, the Chief Executive Officer of AFSP. “This empowering event brings together families, friends, and allies to build a supportive environment centered around hope and healing. We are incredibly grateful to those who participate as Walkers and those who support them—your efforts raise critical funds for our mission.”

Over the months leading up to the event, participants will engage in fundraising and training to prepare for the journey ahead. With achievements such as raising almost $3.1 million in 2025, the enthusiasm is palpable, and the community continues to expand; last year, attendance exceeded 1,700, including Walkers, Crew Members, Volunteers, Staff, and supporters.

Marie Demasi, an 11-time Overnight Walker and Connecticut Healing Conversations Coordinator, shared her personal motivation: “I walk to help forgive my 9-year-old self; that has become the heart of my healing. The Overnight is a place where stigma is absent and hope thrives. It’s a safe haven where we can share our stories and come together to illuminate the path for those who face the darkness.”

The atmosphere at The Overnight is one of connection, support, and camaraderie. Participants are encouraged to share personal experiences and together create a culture where discussions about mental health are normalized; it's a night that focuses on healing through empathy and understanding.
