Subaru of America Achieves 10.4 Percent Sales Growth in May 2026

In a notable development for the auto industry, Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) has announced impressive vehicle sales numbers for May 2026, showcasing a 10.4 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Recording a total of 57,748 vehicles sold, this growth reflects a strong consumer preference for Subaru's extensive model lineup, characterized by affordability, reliability, and safety.

For the fifth consecutive month, the Subaru Forester stood out as the top-selling vehicle within the company's offerings—a testament to its popularity. In May, sales of the Forester reached an impressive 19,577 units, driven by its versatile nature and strong reputation among consumers. It's not just the Forester that is thriving; the Subaru Crosstrek achieved its best sales figures for May ever, moving 17,409 units off the lot, which suggests that Subaru’s commitment to delivering a variety of appealing options is paying off.

In addition to traditional gas-powered vehicles, Subaru is witnessing a notable rise in demand for its hybrid and electric vehicles. Together, these models made up nearly 25 percent of total sales in May, marking an encouraging trend for the company's commitment to sustainability. Both the Crosstrek Hybrid and Forester Hybrid saw remarkable success, contributing to a record month for hybrid sales. Furthermore, Subaru's electric vehicle lineup, including the new Uncharted and Trailseeker models, helped achieve unprecedented figures, with Uncharted alone selling 1,270 units in just its second month of availability.

Jeff Walters, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, stated that retailers have successfully engaged customers, focusing on providing vehicles that meet their desires for affordability, reliability, and the safety features that Subaru is known for. With the summer travel season approaching, this report indicates an upward trend in demand across Subaru's diverse vehicle offerings.

Another factor contributing to Subaru’s growth is the company's strong ties with its retailers, fostering relationships and collaborations that help customers find the right vehicle to match their lifestyles and budgets. Troy Poston, the Senior Vice President of Sales, emphasized that maintaining these strong connections is vital to meeting customer needs effectively and inspiring long-term confidence in the Subaru brand.

Looking further into the sales data, it was also noted that models like the Outback, which sold 11,258 units this May, continued to perform steadily, while the BRZ and Impeza saw a decline in year-over-year sales. The high demand for Subaru’s midsize SUVs and hybrids indicates that the company remains well-positioned in the current automotive market, which increasingly leans towards environmentally friendly vehicles as consumer preferences evolve.

Overall, the surge in Subaru's sales not only underscores the brand's growth in the marketplace but also reflects a growing awareness and acceptance of hybrid and electric vehicles among automotive consumers. With a clear commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction, Subaru aims to continue building on this success as it progresses through 2026 and beyond.
