The Future of Product Design and Circularity with SYSTEM 0™
On September 4, 2026, Arc'teryx will unveil its groundbreaking framework, SYSTEM 0™, designed specifically to redefine product design with a focus on circularity. This innovative initiative aims to transform the outdoor industry, affecting every phase of a product's life cycle, from design and manufacturing to usage, repair, and eventual regeneration.
Introducing the Sperro SV Jacket
The first product embodying this philosophy is the Sperro SV Jacket, which will be available in Arc'teryx stores and online on the launch date. Built upon an unyielding commitment to performance, the Sperro SV showcases advanced durability, repairability, and a design that allows for disassembly once its lifecycle comes to a conclusion.
Featuring GORE-TEX PRO and ePE membranes, the jacket is constructed to meet all performance standards set forth by the GORE-TEX brand in terms of durability, waterproofing, windproofing, and breathability. Through a partnership with Aquafil, the fabric is designed to be recyclable with ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon material.
The Vision Behind SYSTEM 0™
Stuart Haselden, CEO of Arc'teryx, explains, “SYSTEM 0™ prioritizes circularity in a way that fundamentally changes how we build and scale our business. For decades, we've focused on creating gear that is meant to last—rather than encouraging consumers to replace items frequently. We envision a future where our products maintain their significance even beyond their initial life cycles. Today brings us one step closer to that vision.”
Katie Becker, Chief Creative Officer, elaborates further, “At Arc'teryx, we have a long history of developing durable products. SYSTEM 0™ takes this to a grander scale. The entire design team's mindset shifts, symbolizing a powerful evolution in our innovation practices. For our first project, we chose to tackle one of our most complex products, the hard shell. By addressing circularity challenges in this area, we set the stage for wider systemic solutions.”
High Performance Meets Sustainability
The Sperro SV Jacket is a multi-sport hard shell designed to meet demanding performance needs without compromising the circular approach. Rigorous testing was conducted in collaboration with mountain professionals from organizations such as Vancouver's North Shore Search and Rescue Team. Notably, the jacket features Arc'teryx's first-ever replaceable zipper sliders, addressing frequent points of failure identified during testing.
Once the jacket reaches the end of its life and is beyond repair through the ReBIRD™ program, it undergoes a chemical recycling process to separate the GORE-TEX membrane from the nylon material. The nylon is sent back to Aquafil to be regenerated into new ECONYL® threads. The Sperro SV is precisely engineered under the motto
'Designed to Persist™,' extending its usability as much as possible.
Special Launch Events
In celebration of SYSTEM 0™'s launch, customers visiting Arc'teryx stores from September 4 to September 6, 2026, will receive original stickers representing the SYSTEM 0™ ethos. A special event will be held at the Ikebukuro brand store, featuring various programs such as a
