THEKOIWAY Releases New Single 'La Calle Quema'

On June 3, 2025, the vibrant collective known as THEKOIWAY, spearheaded by Chilean artist Victor Vildósola, will unveil their latest single, "La Calle Quema." This exciting new track features the renowned Chilean rapper Jamez Manuel from Zonora Point and combines elements of '70s funk, Latin rap, and urban poetry to deliver a powerful, socially conscious anthem.

Originally conceptualized in Mexico City back in 2012, "La Calle Quema" underwent a transformation over the years, culminating in its recording and reimagining across Brooklyn and Santiago de Chile. The single not only showcases musical innovation but is also accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Vildósola, in collaboration with cinematographers Arturo de Las Fuentes and Francho Ramírez. The video captures the gritty essence of urban life between the two cities, weaving together themes of resilience, community, and social inequality.

In a commendable move towards inclusivity, THEKOIWAY has also created a Sign Language version of the video, interpreted by Ludo Ibarra. This effort is aimed at ensuring accessibility for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, reinforcing the group's commitment to music as a universal medium for connection and expression.

The single's premiere performance will take place at a special release show on June 3 at NuBlu in New York's East Village. Victor Vildósola shares, "This song has been with me for over a decade. It wasn’t its time back then, but when the moment felt right to revisit it, the urgency of its message became clear. The energy found in urban spaces, and the contradictions we face daily, surged back into my mind. Jamez’s powerful contribution only intensified the message we aim to convey."

THEKOIWAY achieved significant recognition in the music scene recently, following the success of their previous maxi-single, "The Game of Life," which garnered accolades and was screened at several prestigious international film and music festivals, including Lift-Off in Austin and Tokyo, Mirada Corta in Mexico City, and the SAM Festival in Chile where it bagged the Best Performance title. The music video for "The Game of Life" earned an Honorable Mention at WSXA Barcelona and a Medal of Honor at the Berlin Music Video Awards, adding to the collective's growing acclaim.

THEKOIWAY’s innovative sound interlaces elements of Latin American rhythms, Andean instruments, funk grooves, hip-hop beats, and compelling visual narratives, establishing them as one of the most exciting voices in the realm of independent music today.
