Hunt Energy Network Expands Its Energy Storage Capabilities
In a pivotal move for energy management in Texas, Hunt Energy Network, L.L.C. has successfully finalized the acquisition of a significant battery energy storage system (BESS) from Recurrent Energy. This 100-megawatt (MW) facility, named Fort Duncan, is set in the thriving region of Eagle Pass, Texas, marking a considerable enhancement to the company's operational capabilities in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.
The Acquisition Details
The acquisition of the Fort Duncan facility, which was officially operational since June 2025, reinforces Hunt Energy's commitment to advancing its footprint within ERCOT. With the addition of this new BESS, Hunt Energy Network and its affiliates now boast a total of 33 operational BESS facilities, equating to a robust capacity of 420MW across Texas.
Pat Wood, who serves as the Executive Chairman of Hunt Energy Network, expressed a strong commitment to expanding their presence in the ERCOT. "This acquisition is a strong step towards achieving that goal," he stated. The facility can provide up to 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) to alleviate local congestion, thus enhancing overall system reliability. Given that Fort Duncan operates as a 100% merchant facility, it stands as a critical asset for maintaining energy stability in the region.
Strategic Growth Plans
Hunt Energy Network has been proactively seeking additional opportunities to grow its portfolio within ERCOT, backed by solid financial support from Manulife Investment Management. The company’s strategy revolves around the acquisition of BESS and other generation assets. As part of its overall strategy, Hunt Energy Network has successfully deployed several smaller 10MW BESS facilities throughout ERCOT since 2021, with plans to incorporate larger systems in an effort to meet market demands.
Ismael Guerrero, the CEO of Recurrent Energy, expressed satisfaction with the transaction, stating that the Fort Duncan project has proven to be a reliable asset for the Texas grid and marks a milestone in the company's strategy to monetize selected projects for continued growth.
Innovative Technology to Ensure Efficiency
Hunt Energy Network leverages its proprietary TraDER QSE optimization and asset management platform to enhance the performance of its generation facilities. The platform, designed to operate smoothly within ERCOT's competitive market, is expected to manage the new transmission-level 100MW Fort Duncan BESS effectively. Stephanie Kroger, President and CEO of Hunt Energy Network, noted, "Our TraDER platform is designed to seamlessly assimilate new facilities into our system, ensuring operational efficiency across our portfolio of assets."
As Hunt Energy Network embarks on this new chapter of growth, it seeks not just to enhance its operational capabilities but also to contribute significantly to the energy landscape in Texas. With a keen focus on innovation and efficiency, the company positions itself as a key player in delivering reliable energy solutions for the future, fostering an environment for sustainable development in the energy sector.
