Toyota Mobility Foundation and ONOVOLAB Launch New Hub for Inclusive Mobility in Brazil

New Beginnings for Inclusive Mobility in Brazil

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) has joined forces with the Brazilian innovation organization ONOVOLAB to unveil the Mobility Unlimited Hub São Carlos (MUH São Carlos). This initiative aims to create a society where everyone can move freely, highlighting the importance of accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

What Is Mobility Unlimited Hub?

Established as a pioneering center in São Carlos, this hub is part of a larger program that promotes solutions tailored to the elderly and individuals with mobility challenges. By selecting nine innovative startups, MUH São Carlos seeks to empower these firms in developing impactful solutions. The criteria for selection emphasized both the technological innovation and the potential for lasting social impact within Latin America.

The overarching mission of MUH is to foster an environment where people with disabilities can live independently and participate actively in society. Following the successful launch of the MUH Toronto in 2024, MUH São Carlos represents the second global hub of its kind, promising to make strides in accessibility and mobility solutions for the growing number of disabled individuals in the region.

Addressing Critical Needs

Latin America and the Caribbean is home to approximately 85 million individuals with disabilities, many of whom still face significant barriers related to mobility and accessibility. The MUH São Carlos aims to replicate the insights and expertise gained from MUH Toronto to catalyze an ecosystem for innovation across Latin America. This hub will not only support local startups but also promote knowledge sharing and network building across borders.

The Selected Startups

The selected startups under MUH São Carlos each contribute unique innovations aimed at enhancing the lives of those with mobility challenges:
1. Steadiwear Inc. – Developer of a wearable device to stabilize hand tremors caused by Parkinson's, helping with daily tasks.
2. Agora Eu Consigo Tecnologias de Inclusão Social Ltda (Livox) – Provides AAC support tools via Android tablets for individuals facing communication challenges.
3. See U Ltda – Utilizes AI and echolocation to assist visually impaired individuals in navigating their surroundings safely.
4. Symbios – Creator of a portable robotic exoskeleton, the m-FLEX, for upper limb rehabilitation, designed to optimize user-specific recovery.
5. GiveMove – Focuses on creating mobility aids that enhance independence and social participation, combining technology with innovative design.
6. LIMBX – Offers customizable prosthetic arms for amputees and those with congenital limb differences, utilizing 3D printing technology.
7. ABG Soluções Digitais (Cuide Me) – Develops a health monitoring platform that connects with devices to provide ongoing health and mobility oversight.
8. SUPER NINA LTDA – Provides safety management platforms aimed at ensuring secure environments through AI and data analytics.
9. EXPLORER TECNOLOGIA LTDA (Therafy) – Integrates VR and AI into rehabilitation, focusing on neuromuscular training for individuals with disabilities.

Future Prospects

TMF, which was established in 2014 to enhance community well-being through mobility-focused initiatives, continues to address mobility challenges globally. The opening of MUH São Carlos marks another step toward inclusivity and empowers the next generation of innovative minds to tackle pressing issues faced by disabled individuals.

As this effort gains momentum, the collaboration between TMF and ONOVOLAB underscores the importance of joint initiatives in creating a more accessible world. The ongoing commitment to support those with disabilities signifies a promising future where mobility is a right, not a privilege.

Conclusion

By leveraging the strengths of both organizations and fostering innovation through strategic partnerships, the Mobility Unlimited Hub represents more than just a program; it's a movement towards an inclusive society that recognizes the value and potential of every individual, regardless of their mobility challenges.
