California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin to Lead Discussion at AutoMobility LA

California's Vision for Future Mobility at AutoMobility LA

On November 20, 2025, Toks Omishakin, the Secretary of Transportation for California, will take a prominent role at the AutoMobility LA event, delivering a keynote session that promises to engage industry leaders and media representatives alike. This event, part of the prestigious Los Angeles Auto Show, is a platform where pressing transportation issues confronting California will be discussed in depth, including a live Q&A segment allowing direct interaction with Omishakin.

"California is at the forefront of transforming transportation," states Terri Toennies, president of the Los Angeles Auto Show. "The conversation connecting state policies with innovation from the automotive and mobility sectors is of utmost importance. We are honored to host Secretary Omishakin and provide attendees with direct insights into the policies shaping the future of mobility."

This pivotal lunchtime event, titled "Direct Line Live with California's Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin," will cover crucial topics such as the electrification of transportation, infrastructure investments, climate policies, and the crucial intersection between public and private innovation. Registered attendees will be given the unique opportunity to submit questions for discussion during the live session, encouraging open dialogue and exchange of ideas.

Omishakin emphasizes California's agenda, stating, "Our initiatives demonstrate how aligned policies, innovations, and people-centered values can lead to significant advancements. We are committed to expanding zero-emission readiness in our communities and establishing the global model for the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles. Our four foundational priorities guide us towards building a cleaner, safer, and more equitable transportation system that benefits all Californians."

Under Omishakin's leadership, California has recently launched the Zero Emission Vehicle Readiness Awards, which celebrate the cities and regions spearheading the transition to cleaner and climate-friendly transportation options. This program acknowledges communities enhancing access to charging infrastructure, supporting the adoption of Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV), and developing equitable and innovative policies aimed at reducing carbon footprints.

In terms of innovation, the Department of Motor Vehicles has proposed expanding its autonomous vehicle regulations to include heavy trucks, thus reinforcing California's leadership position in this dynamic field. The proposed regulations aim to create a phased permitting process, stricter safety standards, and enhanced enforcement capabilities, facilitating more efficient goods transportation while enhancing safety on the state's roads.

Toks Omishakin has served as California’s Secretary of Transportation since 2022, overseeing numerous transport departments, boards, and commissions, collectively comprising over 42,000 employees and an annual budget exceeding $30 billion. Prior to his current role, he spent three years as the Director of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Omishakin’s session is set to be one of the standout moments in a full schedule of panels, presentations, and discussions aimed at both the media and the industry at AutoMobility LA. The event is known for being a convergence point for the global mobility ecosystem, examining the cutting-edge technologies, policies, and partnerships that will shape the future.
