The quotes I've received are not only higher—they are astronomically expensive. The necessary materials and infrastructure for my size of business simply don’t exist here,” Lane lamented.

Importantly, this journey towards local production would likely drive costs up and push prices beyond what everyday consumers would pay. Utility products like Rinseroo have a ceiling on what people are willing to spend. “I don’t want to raise prices, and the market wouldn’t accommodate it if I did,” Lane explained.

The broader implications of Lane's experience serve as a stark reminder of how sweeping tariff policies can inadvertently hurt small businesses. “I am not some mega-corporation dodging the system. I’m a mother from New Jersey with a simple, clever idea, and I built a brand, created jobs, and contributed to the economy—all of which are now jeopardized by policies beyond my control,” she lamented.

Lane is calling upon policymakers to reconsider the structure of tariffs, making distinctions between massive corporations and small business owners like her who lack alternatives. “I don’t want special treatment; I just want to keep doing what I love—solving problems, creating quality products, and growing at a sustainable pace. But presently, I feel more threatened by policies than by market competition.”
