Leadership Changes at American Water

American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., has recently announced key leadership transitions within its subsidiaries in Missouri and Illinois. This move aims to bolster its operational excellence and strengthen customer service across the regions.

Rich Svindland has stepped down from his position as president of Missouri American Water to explore new professional opportunities, effective October 23, 2026. With an impressive background, Svindland previously held leadership positions not only at Missouri American Water but also at California American Water. His tenure is marked by significant contributions towards ensuring reliable and affordable water and wastewater services. The company expresses gratitude for his dedication and wishes him well in his future endeavors.

In light of Svindland's departure, Rebecca Losli has been promoted to president of Missouri American Water from her previous role as president of Illinois American Water. Losli's experience includes overseeing the Engineering Department and Business Development within Missouri American Water, emphasizing her capability in engineering and strategic management. Her leadership experience and familiarity with Missouri are viewed as invaluable assets as she takes on her new role.

Simultaneously, Brian Eisenloeffel has been named the president of Illinois American Water, succeeding Losli. A seasoned professional, Eisenloeffel has spent over 20 years at American Water, progressing through various roles since he began his journey as an engineer at Missouri American Water in 2002. His operational knowledge and strong relationships within Illinois are expected to further enhance service quality for the customers in the state.

Cheryl Norton, the executive vice president and COO of American Water, voiced confidence in the new leadership, highlighting their complementary skills and commitment to the company's mission. Norton stated, "Rebecca and Brian are proven leaders who bring complementary strengths to these roles. I am confident they will build on the strong foundation in both states and continue advancing our focus on safety, operational excellence, customer service, and community partnership."

Losli has been with American Water since 2021, where she has played a crucial role as director of Engineering, focusing on the performance of the Engineering Department before her appointment as the Illinois president in 2022. Her background also includes serving as a program manager for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, as well as founding her own engineering firm, Losli Engineering, LLC.

Eisenloeffel, who has served as vice president of Operations for Illinois American Water since 2024, has garnered a wealth of experience in various capacities within the company. His extensive leadership journey reflects his capability to navigate operational challenges effectively and foster a culture of excellence.

As American Water celebrates 140 years in service in 2026, the organization continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing safe, clean, reliable, and affordable drinking water, serving a population of approximately 14 million people across 14 states.
