ALTA Performance Materials Expands Footprint in South America
In a significant move to bolster its presence in the South American market, ALTA Performance Materials has announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the Palatal business unit from BASF. This acquisition marks a pivotal step in ALTA's strategy to enhance its manufacturing capabilities, technical expertise, and customer relationships to better serve the composite industry in the region.
The Palatal operations specialize in supplying vinyl ester resins and unsaturated polyester resins to various sectors including construction, mining, aquaculture, transportation, and industrial applications. This business is anchored at a production facility located in Concón, Chile, which has built a solid customer base and a team well versed in the nuances of the South American market.
Upon successful completion of the acquisition, ALTA Performance Materials will have a second production location in Latin America. This expansion not only increases the company's regional manufacturing capacity but also reinforces its ability to provide local deliveries, technical expertise, and a wider range of high-quality materials to its customers.
The finalization of this transaction is contingent on the customary conditions that typically govern such agreements, including requisite approvals from regulatory bodies.
Andrew Miller, CEO of ALTA Performance Materials, commented on the acquisition saying, "South America is a vital market for ALTA Performance Materials, and this agreement is a crucial step in strengthening our foothold in the region. Palatal is an established business with a respected regional brand and products, as well as valuable technical expertise and personnel who understand their customers and the markets in which they operate. By combining that expertise with our own capabilities, we can offer our clients more in terms of the materials we supply and the support we provide. We look forward to collaborating with the Palatal team and building upon what they have accomplished."
Ronaldo Freitas Junior, who oversees mergers and acquisitions at BASF Chile, also provided insight into the transaction by stating, "BASF's strategy is to focus on its core activities within the chemical sector. We are convinced that ALTA Performance Materials is the right partner to support the further growth of Palatal. Now that the agreement has been signed, our priority is to ensure business continuity and a smooth transition."
Until the acquisition is finalized, Palatal will remain part of BASF, with both companies continuing to operate independently under the terms of the transaction agreements.
