FamilyMart Launches Easy Book Off Purchase Service

FamilyMart, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is celebrating its 45th anniversary in September 2026. Emphasizing its ongoing commitment to five core principles, the company aims to become the "most environmentally friendly" convenience store. Starting August 25, 2026, FamilyMart will roll out the 'Easy Book Off Purchase' service across approximately 16,000 of its locations nationwide (excluding stores without multi-copy machines).

Simplifying the Selling Experience

In response to the challenges customers face with listing items on flea market apps or finding time to visit stores, FamilyMart has partnered with Book Off Corporation to create a hassle-free purchase service. Customers can simply fill out an online application form without needing to take photos or provide detailed descriptions of their items. Once they package their items, they can bring them to the nearest FamilyMart store for shipping, completing the process. Book Off will then evaluate the items and deposit the payment into the customer’s designated bank account within about a week.

Building a Recycling Community and Exciting Promotions

By positioning its stores as convenient pickup points, FamilyMart facilitates a hassle-free way to send off unwanted items while grocery shopping. The service employs Yamato Transport's delivery framework to ensure smooth processing. To celebrate the launch, a campaign will run from August 25 to November 30, 2026, offering a 100 yen FamiPay gift code to customers who sell items worth over 1,000 yen. This initiative encourages enjoyable shopping experiences and strengthens contributions to sustainable living.

Service Workflow

1. Simple online application via the web form.
2. Pack your items.
3. Bring them to a nearby FamilyMart.
4. Receive payment within 1-2 weeks post-shipping.
5. Sold items will be listed on Book Off's official online store for those who need them next.

How to Ship at FamilyMart

Using a Multi-Copy Machine:
1. Scan the QR code or enter the shipping number on the monitor.
2. Review the terms and your application details, then press “OK.”
3. Take the copy service application receipt and your package to the register.
4. Receive the shipping label from staff, affix it to your package, and hand it over.

Using a Family Locker:
1. Scan the QR code or enter the shipping number on the monitor.
2. Confirm the terms and your application, then press “OK.”
3. Attach the label to your package.
4. Choose the locker size that fits your package.
5. Close the door and press “Complete Shipping.” (If lockers are full, leave the package with the register staff after the process.)

Items Eligible for Sale

Not only can you sell books and CDs, but also a variety of items, including smartphones, electronics, clothes, bags, shoes, and more. Here’s a shortlist of what you can sell:

- Books, CDs, DVDs
- Gaming consoles and software
- Clothing, bags, footwear, and fashion accessories (hats, belts, wallets)
- Brand-name bags and wallets
- Watches, household goods, and electronics
- Smartphones, trading cards, hobbies (figures and models), plush toys, sports equipment, and musical instruments.

Additional Initiatives by FamilyMart and Book Off

Since April 2026, certain FamilyMart locations in Tokyo have installed free collection boxes called "R-LOOP" to gather usable but unwanted clothing and household items. Items collected through R-LOOP are sorted by specialists at Book Off's domestic circular base. Usable items are sold at the company's stores overseas, while those unsuitable for reuse are recycled by local partner companies into fibers.
