Dentsu Secure Solutions Collaborates with Kyorin University on Advanced Medical Device Research

Dentsu Secure Solutions and Kyorin University Join Forces for Innovative Medical Device Research

Dentsu Secure Solutions, in collaboration with Kyorin University and the Biofilia Institute, has embarked on an important research initiative to develop a specialized medical device designed to assist in the diagnostics and treatment of burns. This initiative has been chosen as part of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development’s (AMED) public solicitation for innovative medical equipment and research outcomes.

Located in Mitaka, Tokyo, Kyorin University is committed to leveraging its expertise in emergency medicine. The project, led by Dr. Soichiro Kato from Kyorin University’s Department of Emergency Medicine, focuses on creating a program that utilizes advanced technology to standardize burn treatment—a field often hindered by a lack of trained professionals and specialized manpower.

The core objective of this project, aptly named “Automated Diagnostic and Treatment Support Program for Burn Care,” is to bridge the gap in medical personnel availability and improve patient care outcomes through the application of artificial intelligence in diagnosis and treatment support.

Since 2015, Dr. Kato, alongside Professor Yoshihiro Yamaguchi of Kyorin University and Professor Toshiyuki Tanaka of Keio University’s Faculty of Science and Technology, has rigorously studied the technical aspects of using photographic images of burns for the analysis and evaluation of burns. This upcoming project builds upon their extensive research, marking a significant step toward developing and commercializing innovative products in this critical area of healthcare.

Dr. Kato expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Our department and the advanced emergency medical care center hold a historically significant position in burn treatment nationwide. It’s crucial we harness this legacy to innovate in the field of burn care. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all involved, especially Professor Yamaguchi, for their support. With a team equipped with reliable technology, including AI, we aim to develop new medical devices that will support frontline care.”

Through this collaboration, Dentsu, Kyorin University, and the Biofilia Institute are poised to fundamentally change the landscape of burn treatment by addressing existing challenges and enhancing patient care through technology.
