Emirates GBR Triumphs Again in SailGP's 2025 Impact League Championship

In an exhilarating announcement, SailGP has declared the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team as the winners of the 2025 Season Impact League, celebrating their second consecutive victory. This championship, dedicated to recognizing teams' impactful actions both in and out of the water, featured an impressive total of 48 project submissions, evaluated by a panel of 20 judges who dedicated 114 hours to the judging process.

The accomplishments of the Emirates GBR team during this season highlight significant community and environmental initiatives. Notably, the expansion of their Young Development Program allowed athlete Kai Hockley to secure a full-time position with the team. Their commitment to sustainability was further demonstrated through efforts in waste reduction, achieved by rebranding and repurposing existing equipment. Moreover, they successfully engaged around 250,000 young individuals in climate education in partnership with Goodwall and ensured that SailGP events were powered by clean energy through a collaboration with Low Carbon, utilizing innovative portable solar installations.

Sir Ben Ainslie, the CEO and co-owner of Emirates GBR, expressed immense pride in the team's achievement, stating, "I'm so proud of the team for winning the Impact League for the second year running. We've expanded our partnership with the Greig City Academy in north London to get more young people into the marine industry, organized foiling academies in Weymouth, and collaborated with Goodwall and the 1851 Trust to provide STEM and climate education."

While Emirates GBR took home the top prize, other teams showcased commendable efforts as well. Mubadala Brazil, for instance, secured second place, harnessing the prowess of their first-ever female driver, Martine Grael. Their initiatives to restore Pombeba Island in Guanabara Bay and raise climate awareness in local favelas were particularly noteworthy. Mubadala Brazil also achieved a notable milestone by establishing a 50% female-led offshore leadership team and launching a female foiling clinic to foster pathways for Brazilian female sailors.

NorthStar Canada also performed admirably, podiuming in three out of four Focus Areas and notably winning the Climate Action category, where they planted 2,000 eelgrass shoots south of Halifax in collaboration with local sailors and scientists.

Fiona Morgan, SailGP's Chief Purpose Officer, praised the Emirates GBR team for their compelling commitment to driving meaningful change, stating, "What an achievement for the Emirates Great Britain Team winning the Impact League for the second year running — a standout example of their long-term commitment and passion across the team to drive meaningful change."

Looking ahead, the Emirates GBR team is poised for further success as they prepare for the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix, set for November 29-30. As the event approaches, they stand in a prime position. The winner of this championship will not only claim the prestigious title but also play a crucial role in determining the top three teams to advance to the Grand Final—a winner-takes-all showdown coveted for its US $2 million prize.
