Huawei Partners with Moroccan Government to Propel National Education Transformation Through DigiSchool Project

Huawei and Morocco's DigiSchool Initiative

In a groundbreaking achievement for educational reform, Huawei has announced the successful completion of the DigiSchool 2024 project in Morocco. This initiative, launched in February 2024, aligns with the government's 2022-2026 education reform roadmap and aims to empower students with equal access to digital technology across the Kingdom.

The DigiSchool project, part of Huawei’s global TECH4ALL initiative focusing on digital inclusion, has marked a significant public-private partnership between Huawei and Morocco's Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports. David Li, Huawei Morocco’s General Manager, emphasized the importance of digital skills empowerment and enhancing a resilient digital ecosystem through this collaboration. “The DigiSchool project serves as a true lever for reinforcing public-private partnerships in education and innovation,” he stated. “Our commitment is to continue investing in quality and inclusive digital education goals in Morocco.”

Objectives and Educational Framework

The project is primarily designed to improve digital skills and offer training in technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, web and application development to both students and teachers. Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in robotics and coding throughout the year, also engaging in interactive games that inspired creativity and initiative while boosting their digital literacy skills.

DigiSchool 2024 is structured in four phases:
1. Training Educators: The first phase involved training 265 middle school teachers across Morocco’s 12 regions in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) skills.
2. Continuous Support: In the second phase, trained educators focused on implementing their skills in the classroom, benefiting 2,650 students while receiving ongoing support.
3. Regional Competitions: The third phase comprised regional software competitions held between May and November, where 714 students were tasked with developing ICT solutions to overcome specified challenges.
4. Tech Training Camps: The final phase featured training camps in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir, where regional academies gathered 180 students and 60 teachers. These camps aimed to enhance the ICT skills acquired by students in class and during earlier competitions. Teams received personalized support to develop their software competition projects and present solutions to a judging panel, with top submissions being awarded.

The DigiSchool 2024 program culminated with an evaluation round held at the training camp in Agadir from December 17-19. Distinguished guests included the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, regional education leaders, and Huawei executives, who witnessed students showcasing their newly developed solutions.

Supporting National Education Goals

The success of DigiSchool 2024 underscores Morocco’s ongoing commitment to the digital transformation, inclusivity, and equity of its national education system, serving as a regional example of leveraging technology as a vector for equality and progress.

In addition to initiatives like DigiSchool, Huawei's TECH4ALL program collaborates with global partners like UNESCO and “Close the Gap” to enhance digital skills and connect remote schools to the internet across regions like Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China.
