Flex and AMD Join Forces to Boost U.S. AI Manufacturing Capabilities

Flex and AMD Join Forces to Revitalize AI Manufacturing

Flex, a leading manufacturing and supply chain solutions provider, has recently announced a strategic collaboration with AMD to enhance domestic AI infrastructure. This partnership marks a significant step in the U.S. manufacturing landscape, particularly in the domain of high-performance computing technologies.

The Beginning of a New Era in AI Manufacturing

As part of this collaboration, Flex has commenced production of the AMD Instinct™ MI355X GPU platform at its factory located in Austin, Texas. This initiative not only focuses on the current generation of AMD Instinct platforms but also sets the groundwork for future generations, catering to the steadily increasing demands for large-scale AI deployments across various data centers.

Flex is set to manufacture the complete AMD Instinct platform, which involves the assembly of eight high-performance AMD Instinct GPUs alongside essential components such as PCIe® Gen 5 interfaces, high-bandwidth memory, and high-speed interconnect fabric. Prior to delivery, each manufactured platform undergoes extensive factory testing and validation, leveraging advanced cooling techniques developed by JetCool, a subsidiary of Flex.

Enhancing Reliability and Speed in AI Deployment

Rob Campbell, President of Communications, Enterprise, and Cloud at Flex, highlights the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Partnering with AMD to manufacture AMD Instinct platforms in the U.S. marks an important milestone in advancing domestic AI infrastructure. By combining Flex's advanced manufacturing capabilities with AMD’s leadership in high-performance computing, we’re enabling customers to scale AI faster and with greater reliability.”

Similarly, Keivan Keshvari, Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Quality at AMD, remarked on the significance of increasing U.S. manufacturing presence in collaboration with Flex. Keshvari stated, “Expanding our U.S. manufacturing presence with Flex for AMD Instinct platforms is an important step in strengthening how we build and deliver for customers. With a resilient and adaptable supply chain in place, we are better positioned to meet AI demand and ensure reliability at scale.”

A Sustainable and Advanced Manufacturing Facility

Flex’s Austin headquarters spans an impressive 1.4 million square feet and is designed to facilitate complex and high-volume production while adhering to sustainable manufacturing practices. This facility is an integral part of Flex’s extensive U.S. operations, which encompass over seven million square feet and 17 facilities nationwide.

As AI technologies continue to evolve and demand escalates, the Flex-AMD partnership is well-positioned to tackle future challenges associated with deploying AI infrastructures. The combined expertise and resources of both companies are expected to significantly contribute to meeting the rising needs of data center operators and beyond.
