Sigenergy’s 20 MWh Modular Energy Solution: Redefining Futures in Energy Storage

Sigenergy’s 20 MWh Modular Energy Solution: Redefining Futures in Energy Storage

On June 4, 2025, in Burgas, Bulgaria, Sigenergy welcomed nearly 300 energy experts from around the globe to discuss innovative prospects for energy storage within commercial and industrial sectors. A focal point of the event was a visit to the monumental 20 MWh investment located in Malko Tarnovo, which utilizes Sigenergy’s modular energy storage system (BESS).

The scale of this installation exemplifies not just scalability but also the practical applications of the latest generation of energy storage technology. Tony Xu, founder and CEO of Sigenergy, expressed that, "Our mission is to accelerate the world's transition to green energy through innovative and scalable energy storage solutions. This investment is a prime example of how advanced battery systems can foster business development and reduce carbon emissions across various industries."

Modular Revolution in Energy Storage

The SigenStack solution is a truly modular approach to energy storage in the CI sector. Instead of cumbersome container systems, it utilizes 12 kWh battery sets that can be stacked on top of each other. This design employs plug-and-play connections and tool-free installation, negating the need for complicated wiring or heavy machinery. The entire 20 MWh system was assembled in just ten days and fully commissioned in two days. Galina Peycheva-Miteva, owner of Trakia MT Ltd., remarked, "The installation was remarkably smooth; it felt more like assembling building blocks than rolling out industrial infrastructure. This modular design is revolutionizing energy storage for industry and commercial applications."

Pioneering Safety Standards

Sigenergy's CI BESS solutions establish new benchmarks for safety. At the heart of this innovation is the SigenStack system, designed with safety as a priority at every level. Each 12 kWh battery is equipped with six layers of security: temperature sensors, internal fire extinguishing devices, aerogel insulation, pressure relief valves, high-temperature resistant insulation pads, and smoke detectors. This configuration allows for rapid overheating detection and immediate local response within seconds. Traditional cabinet systems often lack compartmentalization, leading to fire risks as they may respond after a minute.

By isolating incidents at the modular level, SigenStack greatly enhances system reliability and operational safety. Moreover, the advanced inverter platform includes exceptionally efficient reverse current protection with a response time of 500 ms and an arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) capable of detecting faults up to 500 meters away.

To further validate the security of its products, Sigenergy collaborated with Intertek, a global certification service provider, releasing a white paper on the safety of commercial and industrial systems. Results confirm full compliance with UL 9540A and IEC 62619 standards, structural stability under extreme testing conditions, and consistent operational performance above 95%.

Reliability with Zero Maintenance

The design of Sigenergy’s CI BESS, based on robust safeguards and a modular architecture, facilitates round-the-clock autonomous operation. Featuring an IP66 protection rating, the system is resistant to dust and water, ensuring reliable functioning in diverse environmental conditions. In comparison, traditional cabinet systems often incorporate highly sensitive components necessitating monthly checks, biannual part replacements, and yearly comprehensive maintenance.

Real-time monitoring via a cloud-based platform guarantees total visibility of the system's health, energy throughput, and alarms, significantly reducing the need for on-site inspections. Maintenance has also been streamlined; defective battery sets can be replaced individually within two hours without needing full system diagnostics or technician intervention. This minimizes downtime, simplifies logistics for replacement parts, and reduces operational costs.

The successful completion of this investment underscores Sigenergy’s exceptional efficiency regarding installation speed, safety, operational reliability, and smart management. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand worldwide, promoting safer, more efficient, and sustainable energy solutions.
