5th Tanegozou Market Day Set for November 8, 2025

Taisho University, located in Toshima City, Tokyo, is excited to announce the 5th Tanegozou Market Day, scheduled for November 8, 2025, as part of their ongoing commitment to community and educational initiatives. Launched in 2022, this annual event celebrates the Tanegozou, a statue dedicated to the growth and revitalization of local communities.

The Tanegozou Market Day focuses on the “Sugamo Project,” which encourages students to participate in social contributions while learning about local issues. This year’s event will include a variety of engaging activities such as markets featuring traditional vegetables, hands-on workshops, a stamp rally, and guided campus farm tours. Each of these activities aims to improve awareness and appreciation of the history and culture of Sugamo and its transformation into Taneya Street, a street with a rich history dating back to the Edo period.

The event is designed to be inclusive, offering a wide range of enjoyable experiences for all generations. Attendees can look forward to buying fresh local produce and enjoying fun activities that promote local culture. The initiative not only enhances community ties but also educates participants about the importance of local agricultural practices which have declined over the years.

Since its inception, the Tanegozou monument symbolizes the university's commitment to fostering student growth and community engagement. Activities involving traditional vegetables—part of the school's curriculum—emphasize not only cultivation and consumption but also the deeper connections between food and history.

In 2025, vendors will showcase products like “Takigawa Yakisoba” from Tokihaso Soy Sauce Company and various other local delicacies, including traditional Edo-Tokyo vegetables. Special events will also highlight academic collaborations, featuring rituals led by students from the four founding sects of the university, which are influenced by Buddhist principles.

In addition to the Tanegozou Market Day, several other events are scheduled for the same day, including the 33rd Sugamo Nakayama Road Chrysanthemum Festival and the Bustling Library Festival 2025. This convergence of events creates a vibrant atmosphere, providing a full day of fun and learning.
