Revolutionizing Security: The Deployment of the SQ-2 Robot at Tokyo Opera City

Launch of the SQ-2 Security Robot at Tokyo Opera City

On April 1, 2025, SEQSENSE Inc., in collaboration with ALSOK Tokyo, officially launched the SQ-2, a state-of-the-art autonomous security robot, at the Tokyo Opera City building. This deployment represents a significant leap towards addressing Japan's growing labor shortage while improving the safety and efficiency of security operations in commercial complexes.

Enhancing Security Operations

The introduction of the SQ-2 marks a pivotal moment for security services at Tokyo Opera City. Designed to operate autonomously, the SQ-2 is tasked with various security duties, including patrolling commercial areas, conducting surveillance in semi-outdoor spaces such as the Sunken Garden, and monitoring outdoor areas connected to the New National Theatre.

By automating these responsibilities, the SQ-2 not only alleviates the workload of human guards but also enhances the overall security framework within the facility. It provides substantial contributions during both day and night operations, making it a versatile solution for public safety.

Autonomous Operations

The SQ-2 can initiate patrols upon command from security personnel monitoring through a computer interface. Its designated patrol range encompasses floors B1 to 3, including areas that demand rigorous security standards. Particularly noteworthy is its capability to operate in semi-outdoor environments, showcasing its adaptability to different conditions.

Additionally, the robot will be tasked with night patrols around the facility, effectively acting as a deterrent against potential intruders and ensuring rapid detection of anomalies. The SQ-2 is the first of its kind employed for outdoor patrols in Tokyo Opera City, symbolizing a blend of human oversight and robotic efficiency in security execution.

Collaboration with Authorities

The deployment of SQ-2 was preceded by rigorous consultations with local police, leading to the validation of its autonomous navigation capabilities. Authorities classified certain external areas of the facility as highly amenable to robot operation, enhancing the range and scope of security coverage.

Features and Innovations

In its function as a security robot, SQ-2 incorporates advanced technology including 3D sensors, self-positioning algorithms, and real-time routing plans that allow it to navigate buildings with precision. Equipped with proprietary 3D LiDAR technology, the robot can create detailed maps of its surroundings, detect moving objects, and respond to changes in the environment. This feature set ensures that SQ-2 can handle a variety of tasks including patrolling, monitoring, and assisting visitors at the venue efficiently.

The SQ-2 is designed not only to perform these duties but also to contribute to cost reductions in facility management. Regular remote updates will allow for ongoing enhancements and updates to functionality, ensuring that it is always operating at peak efficiency.

Future Endeavors

As SEQSENSE continues to tackle societal challenges such as labor shortages and a decreasing working-age population, the deployment of functional robots like the SQ-2 is a forward-thinking approach to real-world problems. The evolution of security technology will play a central role in how we approach safety and efficiency in public areas moving forward.
