Tia Mowry Advocates Awareness through New PSA
In a notable move towards raising awareness about food allergies, FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) has unveiled a public service announcement (PSA) featuring the acclaimed actor and FARE ambassador Tia Mowry. This initiative, part of the broader Ready to Act campaign, aims to educate and empower individuals affected by food allergies.
The new PSA, titled "Ready to Live," showcases Mowry as she prepares to host a gathering of friends. The journey begins in a grocery store where she reviews food items, diligently checking labels to avoid allergens. This sets the tone for the message: preparation can be simple yet crucial.
FARE's Ready to Act campaign initially launched last year with another PSA called "The Kitchen," featuring Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty. That advertisement highlighted a family gathering that culminated in a surprise pickleball game, emphasizing the excitement of social events. However, the new spot transitions to the aftermath of that game, focusing on the importance of preparedness in social settings, especially for those managing food allergies.
In the PSA, viewers see Mowry alongside FARE’s CEO Sung Poblete, PhD, RN. Together, they illustrate two methods of administering potentially life-saving epinephrine. This medication is crucial in the case of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that can be deadly. By focusing on the actions and mindset needed to prepare, the PSA shifts the narrative from the daunting nature of food allergies to a more manageable approach that encourages involvement and fun.
Dr. Poblete emphasizes, "Food allergy is life-threatening, but being ready to act doesn't have to feel heavy. These stories are about confidence and care. When people know the signs, have a plan, and carry epinephrine, they're better equipped to enjoy everyday moments and be there for one another."
Mowry also speaks from personal experience. "As a host, creating a welcoming space means thinking about everyone at the table," she mentions. "Taking simple steps like checking labels and knowing how to respond in an emergency can make a real difference for people living with food allergies and help ensure everyone feels cared for and included."
The Ready to Act campaign aims to demystify the notion that food allergies must overshadow social interactions. In addition to the new announcement featuring Mowry, a previous segment starred Angela Bassett, connecting the narratives of preparation and inclusivity. All PSAs share the core message that readiness is fundamental to enjoying gatherings without fear and uncertainty.
FARE offers this latest PSA across various digital platforms and shared media to expand public understanding. This is a part of their relentless effort to raise awareness and debunk misconceptions surrounding food allergies. For more information and to watch the new PSA, visit
