Meta Osaka Hosts Creative Roblox Workshop for Students During Summer Break

Exciting Opportunity for Young Game Creators

As summer approaches, many parents hear their kids express a common frustration: "I'm playing games all day and not making progress on my homework." This seasonal dilemma has sparked an innovative approach from Meta Osaka, a company dedicated to leveraging digital spaces and eSports to tackle local issues. They will host a special summer workshop titled "Let's Do Summer Research with Roblox!" for elementary to middle school students on August 6 and 20 in Osaka.

Allowing kids to engage with something they love, this course encourages them to utilize the globally popular online game Roblox, which boasts around 130 million players daily, to create their very own obstacle course games. Throughout a 90-minute interactive session at the e-Sports Stadium Namba, participants can look forward to conceptualizing, developing, and testing their creations. While the target audience is students from 4th grade through junior high school, no prior programming knowledge is needed.

A Solution to a Common Summer Challenge

The workshop aims to provide a meaningful outlet for the summer break frustration. Instead of pushing children away from their games, Meta Osaka capitalizes on this passion by transforming gaming into a learning avenue. "Game Creator" consistently ranks high on children's wish lists for future careers, demonstrating the allure of creating over merely consuming games.

In this workshop, students will shift their perspective from players to creators under the guidance of experienced game development instructors. They will learn the intricacies behind game design using Roblox Studio, ensuring the workshop is beginner-friendly and follows a supportive structure.

Course Details

Two main components define the workshop:

1. Game Development – Attendees will design obstacle course games by utilizing Roblox Studio. They will brainstorm course layouts, explore various components, and validate their designs through trial and error. A noteworthy element of this segment involves participant interaction, as students will get the chance to play each other's games, allowing for shared experiences and valuable feedback.

2. Research Report Creation – This workshop doesn’t merely focus on game design; it reinforces skills essential for completing summer research projects. Participants will receive a dedicated research sheet to structure their findings. The initial sheet prompts students to express their reasoning for this project, its goals, and preliminary design considerations. The second sheet assists them in documenting the challenges faced and solutions discovered during the game creation process, thus aligning the learning journey neatly with the objectives of a summer research project.

By incorporating these structured elements, the workshop guarantees that students move effortlessly from gameplay to meaningful educational outcomes, promoting active learning and creativity.
