In an exciting initiative aimed at fostering children's interest in science, Okayama University’s Comprehensive Technical Department, together with CMA-Okayama, is set to host the 'Waku Waku Experiment Lab 2025' workshop on November 8, 2025. This special event is part of a series of workshops designed for children and families, taking place at the Shikada Hall located within Okayama's Shikada Campus.
The collaboration with CMA-Okayama, which consists of ten affiliated hospitals, aims to enhance well-being and promote interaction between hospital staff and their families. This event, now in its second year, is geared towards strengthening ties within the community while letting young participants experience the thrill of scientific experimentation.
To kick off the workshop, there will be welcoming remarks from Masahiro Mori, the chair of the Medical Human Resource Development Committee, and Yoshihiko Tamura, the head of the Technical Department. Following their opening speeches, technical staff will introduce the various experimental themes the children will get to engage with.
The workshop will feature four thrilling experiment themes: the already popular 'Let’s Play with Slime' and 'Let’s Make Bath Bombs,' alongside the new additions 'Let’s Create Star Boxes' and 'Let’s Make Buoyancy Monsters.' Eighteen children, mainly elementary school students, along with their families, will participate in group activities, where they take turns experiencing all the themes.
As these enthusiastic young scientists dive into the experiments, they will be encouraged to explore science in a fun and approachable manner. The venue will be filled with smiles and laughter, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Yuri Tamada, a technical professional in the medical technology department, expressed her joy in participating for the first time, particularly in facilitating the 'Star Box Creation.’ She shared, "Watching the children’s excitement when they cut out and assembled star-printed boxes was magical—seeing them light up as they observed the glowing results in the dark was quite a sight! Engaging with these experiments not only captivates their minds but also sparks their interest in science, which is exactly what we hope for."
Vice President and Senior URA Norihito Sato, head of the Comprehensive Technical Department, also highlighted the importance of nurturing children's curiosity: “Being able to contribute to this thrilling experience for the children fills me with joy. The activities our technical staff undertake cover a wide range of age groups and play a crucial role in improving communication skills. We look forward to welcoming anyone interested to join future activities.”
This scientific outreach initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to engage with the community and enrich the understanding of science among children, making it more relatable and enjoyable. Okayama University, known for its innovative research and educational approaches, emphasizes the significance of exposing the next generation to scientific concepts.
In conclusion, with the anticipation for the 'Waku Waku Experiment Lab 2025' already building, participants can look forward to a day filled with innovative experiments and fun. Whether through hands-on activities or interactive discussions, this workshop aims to perpetuate a lasting interest in science and encourage curiosity in the minds of young future scientists.
The information was officially released by Okayama University on December 9, 2025, as part of its ongoing commitment to scientific education and community engagement.
