American Water Charitable Foundation Launches New Weather Station at Rutgers University in New Jersey

American Water Charitable Foundation Celebrates New Weather Station Completion

In a significant development for climate monitoring in New Jersey, the American Water Charitable Foundation, alongside New Jersey American Water, has announced the successful completion of a brand-new weather station at Rutgers University in Franklin Township. This initiative is a part of the Rutgers New Jersey Weather Network, designed to enhance public accessibility to vital weather data and promote community resilience against climate changes.

Funding for the station was made possible by a generous $25,000 State Strategic Impact grant awarded in 2024. The installation was strategically placed at the Canal Road Water Treatment Plant, thanks to New Jersey American Water's provision of a secure location, ensuring optimal performance and data collection capabilities.

Features of the Weather Station

The new weather station offers real-time monitoring of various atmospheric conditions crucial for both public safety and educational purposes. Residents and local agencies can now gain access to current and historical weather data, including temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed, and direction, all available through an easily navigable online data portal. Users can access updated information in five-minute, hourly, or daily formats.

Dr. John Krasting, the New Jersey State Climatologist, expressed his enthusiasm about the project's completion, emphasizing its importance for local residents.
